Pulling a few stumps out my yard yesterday and heard a loud pop when pulling out one of the more stubborn of the stumps. Wasn't sure what it was at the time but this morning I drove about a mile a heard some clicking and another pop from the front. Got out and saw this and took the truck back home to park it.

Did I break an axle, a cv joint, something else?

Started pulling this out of the boot, if that helps. I'm barely out of warranty, 37k miles. Something I can fix on my own fairly easily?

That sucks. I've replaced a CV joint on an F-150 I had before and its not too bad if you're handy with basic auto repairs. Was it in 4 wheel drive when you were pulling the stumps? It's funny these trucks where made to haul ass off-road but it lost to a few tree stumps.

CV Joint. Broken mine twice now (fixed under warranty both times). Looked exactly like yours. Sounded exactly like yours. That front axle is weak and I'm constantly paranoid about mine now. Mine still pops all the time when I'm in 4x4 and freaks me out - only the driver's side.

This link has a pic of what mine looked like a couple years ago: http://www.fordraptorforum.com/f39/dead-cv-axle-something-16497/
