aftermarket parts don't just void your entire bumper to bumper warranty. no legitimate warranty claims will be denied because of an aftermarket part being installed unless the part you install causes a failure.... and then ford decides the aftermarket parts you installed caused the failure.

if you install a CAI and your heated seat blows out...they will fix your seat.
if you install a CAI, and break your MAF sensor while installing it, they will tell you to screw. but still even then, if your transmission blows the following week unrelated to the CAI, you're covered.

is a CAI or a cat-back exhaust going to cause catastrophic failure of anything? probably not...

but many dealers will come up with some wack ball correlation, that your intake caused the engine to create excessive power than what the transmission was designed for, and thats why your trans went. You have to be very careful about modding on the powertrain and keeping the warranty. Yes there are some mod friendly dealers out there, but after something breaks is not the time to try and find out which ones are lol.

Case in point, one time I was at my dealership picking my truck up from some service work, and while I was telling the guy he was an idiot for trying to tell me they needed to install new spark plug wires on my truck (now the 5.4 was one of the first trucks to not have plug wires any more, but gimme a f'ing break do they think everyone is that dumb?), I overheard another service guy arguing with someone on why his warranty was void on his F-150 supercrew. Since he installed aftermarket wheels on his truck (only 20's, nothing retarded) his warranty was void because it caused excess strain on his powertrain, and thats why he was having transmission problems. EXCUSE ME?!?!?!??!! Okay I could see if they void the warranty on the brakes and don't cover the brakes from the extra rotational intertia of bigger wheels, but the transmission? Okay a truck that can haul how much payload, and tow how much weight, but can't push the extra weight of marginally heavier wheels? Gimme a break.

And yes, "can't void it unless they can prove it" blah blah blah. They have a lot more push than you do, so many times they know it's not worth your battle in court to fight them on it.

    Long story short, be aware.

Good points Birdman, however on the CAI related to trans failure, I've seen dealers deny warranty on trans, rear diff or axles because of a CAI. All they have to say is that the added power (which we all know is a joke) led to the trans/rear diff/axles failure. Granted the dealer would have to be a total ass, but its happened.

While we all know that is BS, it is then up to the consumer to hire a lawyer and fight it...which in most cases will cost more than just paying to have it replaced.

The saying "you have to pay to play" is all true true when modding a daily driver...been there done that. :Grenade: I'll stick to dealer approved mods this go round.

Does it delete the stock silencer/resonator/whatever it's called, or work in conjunction with it?

ok well you guys can go through life being afraid of your transmission blowing up because of an air filter. or you can get informed and make intelligent decisions. in the mean time, feel free to sit on the forum and spread fear through ignorance. there's common sense, and then there's going against the grain of what is normally accepted as truth trying to preach as someone who is REALLY "in the know" or "i know a guy who knows a guy". furthermore, you don't need a fucking lawyer to fight your warranty. one call to Ford customer service about an air filter blowing your transmission and they will set that dealer straight. i mean, i've seen airplanes fly in to people's houses, but that doesn't mean i'm afraid to sit in my living room.

I purchased an extended warranty on My BMW & the first problem that occurred (a temperature sender went out), the dealer claimed I had voided my warranty by "modifying the air intake" with a K&N air filter. I asked the service manager to smile while I took his picture & when he asked why, I told him I was going to send the picture of him standing behind a K&N display to the company. It got "reinstated" when K&N called & asked to talk to him.
