Longer Oil Filter

Ford (as well as most other manufacturers) have really scaled back the number of filters that they offer. I seriously doubt there is a larger filter available, unless someone is able to figure out an older filter that will work. I also doubt the Ford service rep will be able to tell us anything.

In a fluid dynamics problem, if you want more volume through a fixed restriction, you have to increase pressure. If you can't increase pressure and you want more volume you need either a lower restriction filter of the same area or a larger area filter of the same restriction. Since we can't increase pressure and we don't want less effective filtration, the only other option is more filter area. That means a filter with more filter paper area but with the same filtration effectiveness.

Pumps do not create pressure, pumps create flow!
Resistance to that flow creates pressure!

I buy mine at my local dealer, the Ford Racing FL820 is a common filter for Mustangs. Ask for a loyalty discount should be $12

I did called Ford Racing Parts last year to find out if the double length filters have the same thread and gasket size,
I was told there isn't any info to look up to determine if a compatible Ford Racing filter could replace the Ford Racing FL820.

So we would need a Ford Tech to grab some double length ones like the (FL299 and FL400) off the shelf and try them for us.

It sounds like you're making chess out of checkers to me OP (no offense) since the regular 820 oil filter and the Ford Racing version of the 820 filter has worked fine for plenty of 4.6L 4V Cobra motor enthusiasts over the years...

...that being said, you could always plumb up a remote mount dual oil filter system with the help of a oil filter relocation kit / sandwich plate adapter, etc if you want "more" out of your truck's oil filtration system.

It was an engineer that thought this filter would be perfect on the 6.2l. This isn't rocket surgery.

Is there any evidence to suggest this filter isn't good for a 6.2L? I haven't heard of an engine failure due to dirty oil caused by lack of filtration. And from what I remember, members on this forum sent their oil to oil analysis and they came back just fine even after 7500 miles.
