The real issue here boys and girls is MAKE SURE and consider the needed clearance for Woofer Linear Excursion IF you do not use a grill. Most people do not use a grill like the one shown above because of clearance issues when the seat is folded back down. Because the bottom of seat comes across at an angle (not my first install rodeo) when in the down position guess what? The edge of the speaker my contact the bottom of the seat during operation. Now this is the rub here---pun intended---say you are running a lot of power like I am (T1000 for a 13.5 TW5-3) and EVEN IF THE SPEAKER does not touch when you first install and test the speaker. After some use and break in the speaker will travel just a little bit further and during your favorite Sir Mix A Lot song BOOM—you have broken (will sound like mud) your new woofer because they are not designed to have clearance problems during excursion.

Nosbusa---please provide some input here…..

Oh also on mine to give JUST a wee bit more space I trimmed the rubber floor mat so that the box did not have to sit on it.

Damn it, the front passenger door speaker is sounding blown.

Even RW noticed it the other day, and I missed it. Now I'm really interested...

Single 10 sub under the 1/3 seat for me please...

Even on the fronts pushing them as hard as I do we had to make sure there was plenty of room. To help fool the box for the sub if you need to the Focal Black Hole is great stuff!!!

This is funny while looking for some info a hit came up on Yahoo---an old post I made in 2008 on a audio site---the only reason I post this is you can see what my old truck had in it lol.

Focal 33 KX

I ended up on the Dodge which the old truck was with Diamond Audio for the sub---BEATS ME but it sounded the best lol.

yes, when speakers are new the surround is stiffer. over time the surround loosens up and becomes more flexible. speakers now days have what is called a break in period. depending on the speakers it could be anywhere from 5 hours of play to 100 hours. the break in period also allows the speaker to reach its maximum efficiency, so it is not recommended to "crank up your system" when you first get it. if you remember my post about the fiberglass box i did in a toyota, you will see the woofer recessed in the box. i always recess the woofer so it has space for linear excursion.

pics soon

here are some pics of the process so far.
we have let it sit in the vehicle because the fiberglass will shrink if it is taken out prematurely. once we have enough layers (thats now by the way) we are going to be pulling it out so we can build the rest of it
