So last night, Super Bowl Sunday, we drive about 70 miles to a buddy's house for his annual party. He has enough food to feed an army. Amazing spread.

We leave to go home, get in my '19 Raptor with 23k miles which has been virtually flawless in the slightly over a year I own it (as was my '17 Raptor and '18 Platinum), I press the ignition start button and it begins cranking and cranking and cranking. After what seemed line an eternity, it started, ran rough for a moment, I gave it a little gas, and it stalled. I pressed the button again and again crank, crank, crank.

After about five minutes of this it finally started, the check engine light remained on, and it was fine all the way home.

When I got home I turned it off, turned it back on and it started immediately.

This morning it started right up but the check engine light remains on. Made appt for Wednesday morning at Ford.

My uninformed opinion is that if the check engine light remains on, the computer will retain the fault.

Any ideas what it could have been?

I'll report back when I find out of course.

Impossible to say with any certainty. If you haven’t committed to some FORSCAN mods yet, a side benefit is the ability to check and clear DTC.

Silly question, but what was your gas tank level? Were you parked on an incline?

I purchased the unit that goes into the port on dash to make the changes such as folding mirrors, etc., but have never had the balls to use it as I'm not that technically advanced.

Therefore, I did not place it on there to download any codes.

As far as where I was parked and gas, I was parked on a flat surface and had about 245 mile range left.

Suggest an inexpensive OBD2 code reader. They can be purchased at any auto parts store, Amazon, etc for as low as ~$25 and will display error codes.

Stop by at your local AutoZone/PepBoys/etc... and ask them to pull DTC codes for you. Once we know what the code is, we can point you in the right direction for the solution.

This morning no check engine light. Appt is tomorrow. Running and starting fine. Thinking of canceling appt. true or false: check engine light off, error code gone?

Code will be stored they can still read it. I would take it in , next time it happens it may leave you stranded , betting something fuel related . pump or controller .

Depends on Ford but in my experience, some faults will have to occur a certain number of times to be stored. Some are stored right away. Some may light the warning light, but not store a code bceause it's something that will be user correctable etc etc.

I would keep the appointment and have a record of any codes found.

As others have said, get a decent code reader. Go to the code reader's site and make sure it will work with your year/model vehicle. Some codes are Ford specific and some are just newer so you want a reader that is up to date. Definitely a great tool to have. Most of them allow you to clear the codes as well but you don't want to do that until you find out why the code was thrown. I think $50-$75 is a good range of pricing.
