I live in west texas (flat and nothing to stop wind) and on one of our usual windy days, the wind caught my door and slammed it past the normal stop point.

It left to outward facing dent where the lower hinge is.

Will the dealer fix this or will I have to have insurance fix it.

Seems like a design flaw that the door is even capable of this?

Any ideas?

Interesting. Sorry to hear it man. I'm in all-the-way West TX where at least we have mountains to break it up, but I know what 60mph desert wind is like... Destructive.

If it were me... I'd ask my insurance guy first... But I have a solid relationship with mine so I know he'd shoot me straight. I'd also ask the Ford service manager whom I've befriended and then make a decision from there.

I had a similar situation last december when one of our workers and good friends went to move my truck out of the way so he could pull another one out he hoped out of my truck and accidentally threw it into reverse..not park. Then hopped out with the door open and my door caught the front of another truck ripping it all the way around..door was crushed, hinges done, fender shattered, door panel all screwed up...$3800..ironically we own a body shop lol

It happened some time ago, I opened the door and let it sit on the mid open spot (which is too narrow, IMO) and turned around to get my back door open (SCab) to get my daughter out, and heard BAM! Looked to see the door over opened with two little dents.

The paint eventually peeled off in those spots.

I am just worried about a ****** body shop not being able to match the color, and I know they will have to paint a whole larger section to make it all match (i.e. fender, door, a-pillar, etc.)

That's an insurance claim... In my experience, even if a dealership has a body shop, I wouldn't let them touch my truck. Find an independant that needs to maintain a good reputation to stay in business.

Daaamn, that must have been a crazy wind! This happened to me as well at white sands on the way home from picking the truck up. All it did to my door was crack the arm that holds the door so it makes a clicking noise when opening and closing the door.

Yea but couldn't he claim the door hinge wasn't strong enough to withstand a stiff wind I believe is his question.

And the skid plate wasn't strong enough to withstand that pile of dirt...

I don't think there's any way they cover that. The door stop is designed to stop the door when you open it, not when you get to pushing around on it.
