That is a pretty high Pb count. I take it Ford is still using Pb in their rod and main bearings for this engine? I know that BMW moved away from it at some point in the S65, I think it had to do with some regulation. This reminds me, need to dig up a Blackstone bottle; it's about time for my first oil change.

Mine has been rattling on start up for about 17k miles now. I want to take it in but I have a tune on it. I could put it back to stock and drive for a bit first...

Most definitely do that. Going back to stock asap gets you more key cycles to explain to Ford.

Ford knows when they hook up to your data port whether or not you’ve flashed the ECU. They also know if you’ve been in overboost, or boost is low but other sensors are out of range.

best bet is to make nice with the service manager, because failing that, Ford has a sound legal claim that you “caused” the problem which is the threshold for modifications and voiding of a warranty. You might win, you might not in court, but also keep in mind you’ve also busted the emissions warranty and broken federal law by tampering with the “emissions system” of the vehicle.

There’s bound to be a s/m local who will deal forthrightly with the issue, but it’s a toss up. I’ve heard some folks indicate that if they have to tear the engine down the regional c/s rep comes out. Some have asserted they make some level of “judgement” on these issues. You could make a claim that the problem is happening on more than just your truck, but it’s evident from the traffic here that it’s a few trucks out of the batch suffering from the problem rattle. The problem rattle is different from the normal startup rattle that practically all OHC engines make initially.

One thing is for sure, if you attempt to hide the fact that you have tuned the ecu, the dealer isn’t going to look on that as the act of an honest customer.

Which tune?
5 Star SCT BDX 91 street tune. I have ran this tune on both my 2011 EB and 2015 EB with zero problems. Think I just got unlucky with the 3.5HO startup rattle. It was doing this before the tune was ever put in tho, I just thought it was a trait of the HO EB engine

Please keep us posted. I really hope Ford does the right thing and does not blame the tune.
