I hope discussing guns here doesn't violate any forum rules... I didn't think so?

I saw this on one of the Ford Raptor Forums....

The Remote Control/Phone holder is perfect for holding two Glock 9mm mags :)

That got me thinking.... how to mount my G17? I was playing around with a magnet that Cevulirn sent me that he pulled out of an old hard drive: The G17 magwell rests on a small plastic hook, but I had to open the slide to get the rear of the slide to make contact with this small magnet:

I'm concerned that leaving the slide racked back with compression on the spring will weaken it over time???? But it does close nicely mounted like this:

I'm using a small cuved magnet that is perhaps 2mm thick.... I just ordered a 2"x1"x1/4" Neodynium Magnet that will fit perfectly into that little slot. I figured I'd use some 3M Adhesive to stick the magnet to the lid, cover it with some black electrician's tape to protect the pistol and now the magnet will be thick enough to hold the G17 without the slide being pulled back.

Yes, before the comments come "Sure officer, let me reach for my registration....", I keep my registration and insurance in the visor. I never to need to open the glove box or console without a search warrant.

The only other concern I have is the Magnet... its mounting point is 23-24" from the NAV screen...

I've got a 2"x1"x1/4" Neodynium magnet coming from a magnet store.... I don't know if thats a strong enough affect to mess up the NAV screen.... guess I'll turn the Truck on, take the magnet in from the backseat and start sliding it forward on the armrest/console to see if the screen starts changing colors or not???

Doesn't your state have Concealed Carry licences?? That's the first thing I tell the popo when I get pulled over cause if you don't and they find out later, they're not happy campers.

I have a Concealed Carry License here in Georgia.... but the great state of Georgia considers your vehicle to be an extension of your home. You can have your pistol in your glove box or under your seat without ever saying anything! You do NOT have to have a CCW/CHL/CCL (different acronyms for licenses to carry a weapon concealed on your person) to carry a weapon in your vehicle... the weapon can even be loaded with a round in the chamber! How great is that?

Before I got my Carry License, I have many police officer friends who told me not to offer the fact that there's a weapon in the car unless I had to reach into the glove box where there was a weapon..... then I was told to say "my license/registration is in the glove box and so is my Glock 17".... to avoid that, that is the reason why I now keep my license/registration in the visor. I don't smoke pot and dont drink/drive, so there is NEVER any probable cause (unless the cop makes one up out of thin air) to search my vehicle... if you're ever asked "do you mind if I/we take a look?".... your answer better be "No, I do mind and do not wish to give up my 4th amendment rights". Simply saying "no" is not enough... "no, you mind?" or "no, you do not mind"? if they take a look.

I appreciate your concern, your state laws may vary... plenty of Carry-Law websites out there every state... make sure you know your state's laws.

And who cares if the officer is a happy camper or not? Once he's pulled you over, he's made up his mind already whether he's going to give you a ticket or not... sure your attitude can swing his ticket meter... in GA, at least by law, you are NOT required to disclose that you have a weapon on you in your vehicle... remember the "extension of your home" I mentioned? That's like a cop knocking on your door and asking "sir, do you have any guns in your home?"..... NONE OF DARN BUSINESS! Wanna look in my home or car, you'd better have a warrant... try making up some probable cause charges and my attorney will have that cop's head spinning so freakin' fast the centrifugal force of its rotation will cause his brain to explode....

I can afford to be a little stand-offish too....I'm the deputy coroner for the county and have a state issued badge. Nonchalantly, letting the officer see my badge as I pull my license out usually results in a "warning".... even had a state trooper give me a warning for 92 in a 55 once.

OK, makes sense. I am in that frame of mind because I normally leave mine in my holster on my belt when I'm driving.

I wonder why your officer friends would offer that advice? I've always heard the opposite.

Now I have heard if an officer ever asks for you to hand him your weapon to respectfully decline and tell him he can get it himself.

I'm a dentist.... I treat every patient as though they are HIV positive with AIDS... so we use "universal precautions" which refers to how we handle dirty intsruments/sterilization/hand-wash/etc.... that's like cleaning guns, you treat all guns as if they are loaded... when a cop (at least a smart one) pulls you over, he should assume that with every stop the driver/passenger is armed.... so first off, it should make no difference whether you are armed or not as he should assume you are. And secondly, in all of the above cases... when I KNOW for a fact that a patient is HIV positive, when I KNOW that the gun I'm about to clean is loaded, when the cop who pulls you over KNOWS that you have a firearm on your person.... "human nature", even though you're supposed to use universal precautions/etc.... when you KNOW that an eminent danger is present, even though you're not supposed to react any different... you DO!

And I guess thirdly to repeat myself... at least in my state, its none of your darn business to begin with. I deeply care about my amendment rights... perhaps more than others and I refuse to give them up freely.

Mark, I respect your rights and GA is quite different than OK regarding concealed carry.

In OK, there is no ambiguity concerning this issue, it is the law. http://www.ok.gov/osbi/documents/SDA_Lawbook_NOV_2007.pdf

(See section 4)

Love the idea for the extra mags! Never noticed the underside of the lid. I just put a couple in there and it's a perfect fit. Thanks.

Thats pretty sweet, but the way I off road, the gun and mags would come loose and be flying around the center consol in no time lol.
