I agree to a point, my argument was simply that managing the side winds or head winds (or underbody lift) would be easier with more downforce... Just doing it and not wrecking isn't justification for the tried and true methods for maintaining control at very high speeds.
I had a freak accident at Road Atlanta back in the early 90's. During a qualifing session for a Formula Atlantic race coming down the hill toward turn 1 my car caught a strong wind and blew over backwards. Keep in mind these were very high down force cars. Front and rear wings. The car below is the same make/model. Any wind at speed is the enemy.
