The tail lamp comes as an assembly. However, the SOD modules (BLIS) are serviceable separately, so you can reuse your existing module.

That likely will not work. Lights without BLIS typically are designed for vehicles that never had BLIS, and the spot where the SOD module goes will be filled with a reverse light or something. Tail lights with BLIS means that you can reuse your SOD module in this light.

For example, these lights are not compatible with BLIS:

These are compatible with BLIS, although they do not actually contain the SOD module in them:

Not exactly sure what you bought, so can't confirm anything.

I assumed he bought a factory BLIS light that didn’t come with the module. So when installing the new light he has to install the old module.Way I read it anyhow.

As @melvimbe stated, the Recon tails are compatible with the BLIS system.

take out the old one(2 screws and a little of pulling) disconnect light plug, remove Blis, remove Blis plug,
reinstall Bliss and reinstall tail light and Bliss ,work perfectly.very easy process.
i was surprised how much water was in the light!
