What is the function of simulated bead lockers, other than looking the part?

Those look pretty sick. Was the cost with the rims or just OMF's work and shipping of course?

I like the look and don't want the hassle to maintain real bead-locks. The protect the rim and offer some additional traction with the rock stars installed.....
