Yes, happens all the time. Pretty much no recourse if they do.
Technically they can do anything they want until it’s sold and you take possession of it.
I had a dealership tell me the same thing. They wouldn’t commit to a number not knowing where the market would be in 3 months. They also related it to where my trade would be in 3 months and additional miles/wear and tear.
It’s just a shady market right now
