First time posting, but I have been reading lots of posts though.

Is there any reason to be concerned buying a raptor Gen1 2013-2014 with 100K + miles on it?

What would need to have been done maintenance wise by 100k? I see lots of guys talking about rebuilding shots, etc. is that a concern with trucks with mostly street miles? Anything else like timing belts, etc. that I should ask about?

Thanks in advance! I am hoping to find a local raptor in the 30-35k range.

Currently driving a 2014 that I got w 93k mi on it. Now at 98k w no problems.

Drove it like I stole it on the test drive. Took it to my guy; ran codes, lifted it, looked underneath - checked out - This is crucial.

From what I read here - and my budget - I got a Gen 1. I love it. Can I say it again, I LOVE IT.

Can’t beat that V8 sound. The fact that it’s an iconoclast, and from what I’ve seen and heard here that the Gen 2 have had a few issues here and there I am happy w my choice.

I had no documentation regarding shocks, and the brakes and tires needed replaced.

I bought a set of used shocks here and had them rebuilt, got newer tires here, bought new brakes, and am planning on new plugs, wires, and all fluids flushed at 100k.

Have yet to put these all on but I look forward to getting back to as close tp what might be a “factory” truck.

All in all, I feel like this is fast becoming a Gen 2 forum as it’s hard to find many Gen 1 posts.

Maybe that attests to the Gen 1’s durability?

i have 177k on my 2014. i still go to multpile offroad events every year. as long as it checks out, you will be fine. but you have to keep up the maintenence on it. spark plugs need to be done at 100k. shocks should be checked and most likely rebuilt or replaced as well

My biggest concern is the possibility of rust on the rockers. Be sure to check those. While down there, look for signs of severe off road abuse: dents in skid plates, scrapes, bent items, etc. These 6.2s are pretty darn solid when maintained well. I imagine most people who buy them are "car guys" and have at least a rudimentary understanding of maintenance. I'm approaching 95,*** on my 2012 and have only had to replace one IWE (the other one will be done soon...) other than general maintenance, shock rebuilds, etc.
PS- No timing belts on the 6.2....

Shock rebuild is something that's going to have to be done on 99% of used gen 1's so I would just plan on doing that no matter the mileage. There might be some other miscellaneous wear on the vehicle (steering or suspension parts, bearings ETC) but you would expect that out of any used vehicle.

Find the color you and options package you want, check it over good, buy it. You have plenty of budget, take your time and find the best truck you can. Set aside a little money for any issues that might arise, and start enjoying your Raptor!

Thanks for all your tips guys, I am def taking my time. Just got a bonus at work and need to pay off a few house projects and its time for me to get a ride. Its crazy but on eBay the low mileage trucks are priced super high and I can't see paying more then 30-35k for a 2014. Also, I do like the solid v8 and my commute to work is really short, I work in the next town and don't need to even hit the highway if I don't want, so I won't be racking up miles.

Hoping to find something local a rich guy parked in his garage ;)

As for colors, thats another challenge. I really like the blue but they seem rare. The tan color is unique but I see myself in white or black instead. Its hot here to black has its downfalls at times.

So, last question. You guys think 30k-ish this is a realistic price range for a 2013-14 with around 100k miles? Obviously hoping to find one in the 75-80 range but we will see.

Cheers

You can find some for 27k or thereabouts with nearly 100k miles around here. Maybe even cheaper. Been a while since I've looked.

Bought my second gen 1 with 56k on it and I'm at 92k now. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one at 100k provided the price is right and the PO took care of it. The only complaint I have is the chain tensioner rattle which has been documented to death on here and isn't an issue, just an annoyance. Just unnerving hearing something clack away at start up after it's hot and has sat for 10-15 minutes.

Check/ask about shocks and if they've ever been rebuilt
Rust obviously
Find out if the VIN you're looking at has any open TSBs (transmission lead frame comes to mind as well as the fuel pump relay fix)
Check spark plugs too as they're a pain to do (16 of them as well) and everyone does them at 100k anyway

I would buy the lowest mile truck you can afford - that being said the gen 1 Raptor has no major mechanical weak points at all. Fuse 27 issue and transmission lead frame is about it - both easy to mitigate.
