Bud- like I said - literally do this for a living & have been for the past 2 decades.

I’ve been to that plant.

Unfortunately recyclers aren’t getting subsidized by the govt like waste mgmt or Tesla. The residual material left from their process is not entirely recyclable, what they do is essentially pre-processing, the residual material left that contains lithium/cobalt/nickel needs to be sent overseas to a refinery, when that material is refined only a portion Is able to Be recovered back as usable nickel, the balance is essentially toxic waste.

Not only that, Recycling is a business- like I said recyclers don’t get subsidized & need to turn a profit- Toxco & Rietriev (another company trying This out) CHARGE for this process- that’s not a sustainable biz model for the people recycling cars, get it? TO make sense it either needs to be subsidized by the EV manufacturers and/or the govt.

Replacing the CO for NI is a better option on the recycling end, but there’s some technical/safety reasons why CO continues to need to Be used (that reason I’m not very familiar w/) - but on the flip side people PAY for the lead acid batteries, PAY for regular old gas cars- in order to be sustainable the recycling needs to be as close to closed loop/reduce the amount of useless byproduct possible (strictly speaking From the metal side) & it needs to make sense financially to incentivize companies to do it.

Should have said fossil fuel not coal. My point still stands that even if you ignore the environmental destruction of batteries in mining/manufacturing/disposal; EV cars still cause pollution via the electricity they consume which is predominantly generated from fossil fuels. You can add the inefficiencies of transporting electricity, which Texas sells excess capacity to Kalifornia.

Stop perpetuating the lie (not directed at you personally) that EVs are emissions free or have no carbon footprint. It is ridiculous.

EDIT:
Looks like the total carbon footprint of operating an EV compared to an ICE (staying on topic ya know) depends to a large degree on where you charge it.

****** move. No different from the guy who parks his little Toyota in front of the Diesel pumps so he can go buy his Big Gulp and hot dog.

wearing a man bun too, amiright?

some self entitled, knucklehead tried to chide me for fueling Lucille and taking up too much room, whining about me pulling all the way forward so she could gas up quicker.
i told her the forward pump was diesel, and my truck wasn’t, but she was welcome to pull around and fill up. based on the look on her face I’m betting she didn’t know what diesel was but at least she went away muttering to herself.

No, that wasn’t her, but I am pretty sure if that was her, she’d have been in front of the magistrate as a defendant.

No, the woman who confronted us was just befuddled that you could get diesel fuel out of fuel pumps that look the same. She probably also thinks chicken comes out of packages at costco in its natural form too.

******* can't stand those guys....

We have a brand new ChicFilet here in Burbank and it has one spot set aside and labeled as a charging station, it's got a walk way on one side and a low curb on the other (no door dings)...And I park there every time I visit...problem for ECars is the charging station hasn't been installed yet...so no guilt for me!

If, a big if, we could get the granola bar, tree hugging, hippies to understand (not likely) that nuclear is the way to go for clean energy.....

Fuuuuck nuclear. That ***** is too volatile. Not only that but you have to store all the used fuel too, that shit leaches into the ground over time etc. It's the dirtiest source of them all.

What's really stupid is that the schools in my area have 'LEV Only' parking spots in the lots adjacent to the schools. I guess they feel that the fat liberal lesbian teachers that drive Prius' are better than everyone else. Would do them good to walk across the lot everyday and get a modicum of exercise.
