So its not that Ford only undercoats the 802A rear axles and not the base ones. Strange...

By the way, Ford just announced they are losing money so watch out for more "Value Engineering" cuts by the Beancounters. They try to cut things they think nobody will notice... Like shifter console lights and ability to change ambient lighting colors. All manufacturers do this. Maximize profits. A few dollars here, a few dollars there x 100,000 vehicles.

The back of my rear axle looked a lot better than the front of it...i would be interested to see the other side.

Same here, back of my rear axle looks better than front. See photos. It looks like either Ford or the axle supplier put a very thin coat of paint or none at all on the rear axles of our Raptors.

I had the spare tire off and checked the rest of the truck under the bed, frame, and mid section. Everything else looks good but living in the desert I dont expect to see any rust.

I have to bring my Raptor in for the latest recalls and the TSB's. Im going to see if they will spray the rear axle black or undercoat it while its in the shop. If not, I'll do it myself. Jeez, even Toyota paints their rear axles black with enough paint to prevent rust!

I was trading my 18 for a 19 this week. I went to buy the truck yet it failed my inspection. The axles where extremely rusted, paint look like shit, agate black, extremely bad orange peel all over, doors misaligned and sticking out over .25 in, top door also misaligned, not even close. Front bumpers off. Needless to say I nixed to deal. Waiting until summer to see if problems corrected. Every new truck at autonation looked like shit, extremely poor quality control for any new vehicle, let alone 70k. Looks like some pos from junk yard not a new truck.

If anyone from Ford Manufacturing reads these: Common Ford, you need TO DO BETTER! What happened to "Quality is Job One!"

Or are you too busy pushing Raptors out the factory door to sell them in China for $300k each?

my raptor has looked the same as some of those pics since day 1, I noticed it looks just like my denalis and wranglers did as well.....not concerned about it.

sure it looks ugly but it won't affect the function. of course, if you aren't married, don't have any kids, and the raptor is your only vehicle then I get it, you have nothing else to worry about.

I agree on the iron parts but I traded in a 2016 Denali that had 40,000 miles driven in the upper midwest with half as much rust underneath as my brand new 2019 Raptor with 6 miles. Wifes GMC is good too. Lucky for me the dealer and Ford took it back and we ordered a new one. I also have a 2018 F150 XLT as my work truck with 26,000 miles and it has almost no rust on it and it has been in a ton of salt brine this year. The raptor also had a lot of oxidation on the aluminum parts.

Side note: I was one of the guys that owned a 2010 Tundra that had to have the bed and tailgate replaced because of rusted out bed mounts. That Tundra only had 11,000 miles on it when the dealer found it after I showed them paint bubbles in the bed, around the bolt heads. Wasn't happy and the paint never looked as good as factory. I guess I am trying to avoid going through something like that again if I can with the Raptor.

Yes, the surface rust on the axle isnt going to cause a failure but on Ford's "Iconic" Raptor they can spend $5 to spray the axles black! Its like the plastic oil pan, the Beancounters try to shave a few bucks here and there where they think owners wont notice.

To Ford: do NOT let the Beancounters run the company or make design changes. I think I can speak for all Raptor owners when I say we would have gladly paid $100 bucks MSRP more for fully painted rear axles and metal oil pans. Ford is being Penny Wise and Pound Foolish!

This Raptor in the above link looks like a Salt Water Flood Vehicle that sat in salt water for some time. If it was sold as NEW then the owner should take the dealer to court, file a Lemon Law claim. All those thousands of new cars and trucks that were in dealers lots that got flooded are still out there in the market. They clean them up and sell them. Just like hail damaged new cars. AND most times the Dealers never disclose the flood or hail damage! BUYER BEWARE!!!

Fordloco, that sucks, I don’t understand that much rust on a new truck. We’re they offering a good trade in on your 2018?
