This is by design. they play with the throttle mapping. more gradual application of power to keep wheels from breaking free. no extra drag.
Lack of throttle is very noticable. Yes I know its by design. Sorry, 10% less power then. Feels detuned also in weather mode. Had to floor it to get on freeway when normally half throttle is fine. But yea I get it. Good mode for Ice

Truck is biased to rear wheal drive. Clutch engages and disengages for front axle drive.
So truck is always rear wheal drive. When conditions dictate clutch engages front axle. As well there is a lock to bypass clutch for offroad heavy hauliung
My 2017 is biased to Front Wheels in 4A guaranteed. I have tested it spinning front wheels at a wet stop and then rears lock in. Hear it clunk then the the front wheels stop spinning. This is with 802A & Tech Package, Torsen Front Diff. This may be an early 2017 one off config. I have seen another guy write about excessive torque steer in 4A on his 2017. I have that too but don't mind it for the better MPG.

I wonder if theres documentation somewhere listing all the config changes in the Raptors from 2017 launch to 2020. Would be interesting...

Hey Dewalt, this link above is dated 5/2017. My build date is March 2017. Thats why I said maybe it was changed by Ford. Mine is definetly Front Biased. I know what Torque Steer feels like. I have never seen heavy torque steer from RWD. How do you explain front wheels spinning from wet stop in 4A until Transfer Case kicks in rear wheels with a clunk?

Also if I am in 4A on knob then select Sport Mode the indicator next to the 4x4 knob changes to 2WD and Torque Steer is gone.

Strange but true. At some point Ford must have changed the transfer clutch from Front Bias to Rear Bias in 2017.

My wife's 2007 Acura MDX SH AWD had the same front bias setup. My truck feels just like that Torque Steer in 4A but worse. MDX had Torque Vectoring to minimize torque steer.

Ill try to get a video spinning my front wheels only in 4A.

I will have to try it out! I've been enjoying driving in the snow with 4A and TC off (for playing). Have only had snow for a few weeks now in my first winter with the truck, so I have lots of experimenting to do still. Thanks!
It’s definitely not a fun mode [emoji23] more like taking the kids to school early am mode.

First time I used snow mode I was behind a H2 driving 10mph, we hit the passing lane (middle of snow storm) and I went to pass him... of course since it was now a double lane he went up to 50, I slam on the gas and couldn’t get around him. Back to single lane and 10mph the rest of the way home lol.

I have a 2017 802A SCREW (early 2017 build w/ Torsen Front Diff) and when in 4A it is applying power only to the front wheels as confirmed by Raptor power distribution screen. The truck acts like a FWD until the front wheels lose traction then the rear kicks in. This is using 4A on the 4x4 Selector Knob. There is heavy torque steer in 4A just like a FWD car. I like it though, I get .5 mpg better on the Avg Mpg screen too.

When in Weather Mode it is in true AWD not sure if it still has front wheel priority in Weather Mode. There is about 10% more drag in Weather Mode. It feels detuned, very sluggish. I would only use that on Ice / Black Ice. Good mode for wife though in rain or snow.

Seems the Raptors have had Terrain and 4x4 Modes reconfigured a few times from 2017's to 2020's by Ford. My tune is stock. I think Ford has changed the Tunes a few times too.

No body changes but lots of changes electronically and in drivetrain though. 2019 is almost a different vehicle from 2017 with the variable rate shocks, etc.

Strange. My 18 has never powered the front wheels exclusively in 4A.

No... they didn’t. as previously stated, documented and linked, the truck is always in at least rear drive. I don’t think it is capable of sending 100% to the front, but I’ll reserve judgement. If you had a front bias truck you wouldn’t have forward motion in 2H. You might be seeing front engagement more, or there could be a display issue.

When my '19 is is 4A it will often put power only to rear wheels when I'm at higher speeds. I haven't been using the rain/snow mode though. Not sure if that would make any difference or not.

Try. HARDER. You can definitely get the fronts to engage at higher speeds.

I’ve noticed this too, bumping on along about 65-75, nail the gas, and nothing on the fronts. hmm... I try the same shenanigans at 25-35 and it’s noticeably trying to get traction. About a year back I was coming home in a rain that would make 7 or 8 on the Irish rain scale. Absolute downpour. We were having none of it, making steady time until the Maroons collaborated to form a wall of slow moving drivers who were in a pant $hitting hysteria. I spied a gap, pointed Lucille in the proper direction and -nailed- the throttle from about 40-45 mph. Oh heck yeah the fronts got traction and lots of it, but the wheel was fighting me like I hit ruts in the mud.

Of course, if you’re losing traction at 65-75mph, there could be a bigger problem ;-)

With all the snow this TG, I finely got to use the 4A...and like almost all have said is yes rear drive with front adding when needed....
Actually when down in Baja for the 1000 we pre-ran some and it was a muddy mess with some places I needed 4WD, so ran that whole 40 mile section in 4A....including up a sand wash for a couple of miles. it was smooth and seamless...

Hey Smurfslayer,

My truck is ONLY front drive biased in 4A. In 2H it is straight 100% RWD. It handles completely different in 2H vs 4A. Very evident heavy torque steer in 4A have to grip the steering wheel tightly when accelerating especially around a turn just like a FWD vehicle. In 2H no torque steer at all. And .5 mpg better in 4A consistently. Explain how front tires only spin from wet stop in 4A?

Maybe Ford revised it due to high complexity?
