Looking for advice on off road trails that are wide enough (want to avoid pin-striping), but not so extreme for the Yosemite and Lake Tahoe area.

Thanks in advance

For south lake tahoe try Genoa Peak trail. About 22 miles long. Access thru Brotovich park(North Benjamin) off of Kingsbury grade. Comes out at the intersection of 28 and 50. Nice views of the lake. If you do this you must go to the top of Genoa Peak. Can drive to it except the last 300ft of elevation you have to hike.

Are there any North Shore suggestions for Tahoe?

There is what they call the fiber road(route 73). Goes from the top of 267 (Northstar exit) over to Tahoe City. Not near as scenic.

Free forest route maps are available at the ranger station. It's called the Motor Vehicle use map lake tahoe basin management unit. Not real good but will get the job done.

Get a map of the fire roads. I’ve done those plenty of times with a jeep and trucks years ago. Old Mt Rose Hwy is a fun road too. You can essentially go from Reno to Tahoe and never take a road. That said, be prepared for a lot of snow toward lee side of the peaks. Make sure you have a winch and plenty of line.
