1/0 fits through the factory boot/grommet no problem. Just make sure you have Vaseline. It makes the job incredibly easy.

Another question on wiring new speakers. OEM speakers have the wire connector on the outside of the inner skin. With aftermarket speakers, this connection will need to be made inside the door (between outer skin & inner skin). Any tips for doing this or any pictures for reference? TIA

You can drill a hole in the speaker adapter plate and run the plug wires through it. Then seal it with butyl.
