***I'm gonna go against the grain to show both sides of an HOA, cause I HATE em and I NEED em sometimes.
Its tough to find an area without an HOA around here. Im in an HOA, and frankly in Houston you WANT to be in an HOA, unless your one of the ******** that likes to park in their yard, never mow their grass, ride motorcycles on the sidewalk, start a mechanic shop in their garage, etc.
I don't mind so much, cause down here, people disregard ALL rules if you give em the opportunity. Most of HOA rules are to keep the area clean and neat (and to keep people from putting up huts/tents/etc covering their car)... no offense. lol
I can tell you if I lived in your neighborhood and lived in an HOA I'd be all over ur case..... for the same reason you say you pay $22k a year in taxes (which has **** to do with the HOA, btw) is because I would be paying the same fees/taxes for the HOA to PREVENT someone from doing stuff like this across the street from me.
And my favorite..... people in Texas loooooove to paint their houses BLUE for some reason, lol.... and thats a big perk of an HOA...... or you would see all the "60% off colors at Lowes" on some Vatos house..lol
I'm not pro HOA, but I'm not pro PITA (pain in the ass) either. Even in my HOA neighborhood I have kids riding dirt bikes all over the sidewalk, forcing kids off the roads, people who have 6-7 vehicles in their driveway (this is a single family area, not extended family) and block the sidewalks forcing kids/adults to walk out in the street into the traffic.
Imagine someone across the street from you selling their "million dollar" house..... think they would be excited about the tent? lol Live in a million dollar neighborhood, be expected to spend $50k on adding another garage if needed
I park my truck in front of my 4,000 sq ft house, and paid less than half of what you did, but again, its just a truck. Its not one of my kids.
