Ive been saying it for a while on the z. If it were possible to retrofit a Bi-xenon H13 bulb into the Recon projector headlights you could have a street legal HID projector setup, that actually looks good. IMO retrofitting a projector into our stock housing just looks cheesy. The only real concern, if the bulb would fit, would be if the high beams would "throw" far enough to actually be a decent hi beam.

Anyone with those recon headlights know if its possible to get a H13 in there ? they are meant for H1 style.

I may have to just take this project on this spring and see if I can make it happen.

Ducati... on what are you basing your judgement that putting a Bi-Xenon H13 bulb into a Recon projector would be street legal? I'm not seeing it.

Ironman... still considering options.

Because HID's in projector housings are street legal. Pretty much every high end car comes with them stock now.

Ummm...NO.

Full code is here under §571.108.

Technically, all aftermarket lighting solutions that are not offered as an option on the original vehicle are illegal. NHTSA has made that clear.

Slapping a Xenon bulb in a projector housing that was not designed specifically for that bulb is definitely not approved. Did you read any of the stuff on the Daniel Stern site that directly discusses this problem?

Realistically, if you want a "street legal" lighting solution for the F150, the closest you can do is take an approved headlight system from another vehicle and do an impeccable job of retrofitting it to your truck. While not technically legal, if properly installed, aimed and adjusted for the height of the Raptor...you should be able to meet all of the photometric test point values for upper and lower beam systems. You will not meet the DOT marking requirements and other material requirements but should be able to meet the performance requirements. That would be the closest and safest you'll come to a "street legal" HID Xenon solution for the Raptor. It is unlikely that anyone would be adversely affected by such an installation and law enforcement would possibly listen to your argument. You'd still be breaking the law but realistically you'd probably not have a problem.

Just my researched opinion.

LOL

Hey, you can get a good look at a T-Bone steak by sticking your head up a bulls ass but I'd rather take the butchers word for it.

No bull...just truth. Sorry if you don't like the taste of it.

I don't particularly like it either, which is why I gave my opinion of how to create a somewhat safe and close to legal alternative. Believing the Chinese manufacturer's regarding compliance is a big problem. Want some DVD's too?

But to slap an HID bulb in a halogen projector housing not designed for it will in most all cases result in a non-compliant lighting system due to excess light transmission in unapproved planes (glare). For a more extreme case of this see FlounderStalker's pics of his Xenon bulbs in the OEM housing...totally illegal.

PS - I love the farm references coming from a New Yorker to a guy in the Wild West. Now that's funny.
