Always uninstall the COBB accessport before going to the dealer. You don’t want them plugging into the OBD port with your tune on there. They have never noticed I ever had it installed and I have been in several times now. Only painful part is the 20 min install when you go to put it back on.

I guess I'm confused. So does the COBB device (access port) need to stay connected for the tune to stay active? I assumed you can use the COBB handheld device to then reprogram the ECU, then unplug the device and store it in the box or something. If it doesn't work this way, is there not a tune out there that just flashes the ECU with the updated timing map etc. that doesn't make any detectable changes during a regular service check? I know there used to be some tunes like "ABT" or Roush for example, that you could do at the dealer and have a warranty and never worry about plugging or unplugging, or removing tunes and adding it back etc.

Are there after-purchase options like that for this truck? I do find the Normal mode a bit sluggish considering the full performance capability of the truck. Want to get a bit more out of 91 Octane :) Also while I'm typing ... I've always gone for 0% ethanol 91 - what's everyones consensus on the best fuel to use?

Once you flash the tune you can store the tuner. It doesn’t need to be plugged in. You need to uninstall the software from your ECU before going to the dealer so they won’t see a modified tune on your ECU.

Thanks for the update, we really appreciate it! Please continue to update us as to how you like it over time!!
Will do!

Quick you can’t make this stuff up story...

While heading home from my hunting grounds I needed fuel in middle of nowhere Texas Panhandle. Pulled into the only station around and guess what??? Premium was only 90 octane at this particular Conoco. I had about 1/8 tank of 91 remaining so I put in 4 gallons of 90 and headed to the next town to get 91. Figured 90.5 octane would be ok for a few miles of highway driving. Filled with 91 now.

Thought about flashing to one of the lower octane Cobb tunes but decided against it due to minimal risk of the 90 fuel vs risk of something going wrong with the flashing process far from home.

Hahaha oh man. Well you should be ok, as long as you're not racing the truck around everywhere on 90oct. You'll be fine.

All of the tuning I do includes “after purchase” or what I like to call revisions for free, until we are finished.
