As far as I know, the regulation is that you can drive in Wharton and the surrounding state forests in a legal street vehicle (insured and registered) and park ranges won’t bother you. I know they will ticket you and confiscate an ATV or Motorcross since those are not road vehicles.

I’ve driven my wife’s crossover there in the easy trails and no problems whatsoever.

Do you have any trail recommendations? I'm looking to do some trails this summer and I don't really know anywhere besides rausch creek

Regarding the original question, I keep a folding saw in the truck. Some loppers might be a good addition as well.

Have both older Taco and 19’Raptor. Live in NW with tons of logging roads and occasionally they’re pretty tight. Raptor a clear winner on every conceivable road here with the only exception of width....but seriously, how many roads do you think you’ll be on that you CAN drive a Taco and CAN’T drive a Raptor? ... (Better off getting a Raptor and a Side by Side). Difference in driver enjoyment is off the scale with the Raptor - just a hoot to drive! But ya gotta pay the piper.

Agree! I keep a machete for the small brush and a chainsaw for the bigger stuff. You never know when you may encounter deadfall blocking a trail and then that chainsaw becomes invaluable

How far would you be from the North Maine Woods? I've been all over there in my Wrangler but frankly those logging roads would be much more suited to a Raptor. Bring extra gas, watch out for the logging equipment and vehicles - and the Moose!

Camping is awesome up in the north Maine Woods as well - sites are maintained and all on beautiful spots near a river, big Brook or lake. Many sites are from each other. You have to pay to enter at one of the checkpoints, then you're on your own! Like I said, keep an eye on your fuel!

I had a ‘19 Tacoma TRD pro. Had it out to AOAA, did some challenging obstacles with it. It was unstoppable

if you’re going to be spending a significant amount of time off road (several times a month), then the Taco will suit you better for the NE due to its more narrow footprint

However, the Raptor is a superior vehicle in every way.

I haven't run trails in the NE but I do run them in the NW and I'll say the Raptor size is only an issue depending on how much you care about your paint. If you want to keep it pristine, you're gonna be limited BUT not that much more than anyone else. It's not THAT much larger than a normal F150 but both of them are much bigger than a Tacoma which itself is much larger than a Jeep. There's only ONE part of ONE trail I came across where my truck was physically too large to navigate it (and then I just went around that section ...)
