GEN 2 Cold Start Rattle Diagnosis

I recently started hearing this rattling on cold starts only because I was playing with the remote start. I’m not sure if this is the cam phaser issue or not. Just turned 10,000 mi a few weeks ago. Can anyone pinpoint the rattle? It typically lasts 1-2 minutes. In this particular video the rattling disappears at 1:18. Any help is appreciated.

Mine does the same. Pretty sure it’s the waste gate rattle. Mine is on cold starts and only during the warm up period before the idle drops to normal operating parameters. Cam phaser noise isn’t typically that long and has more of a Diesel engine sound to it.

Normal. Sounds just like my '19. All Turbocharged Direct Injection engines will sound similar on a cold start. It's part of the cold start strategy that is designed to light off the catalysts and enter closed loop operation as quickly as possible. This includes elevated idle, retarded ignition timing, camshaft timing adjustments, and increased throttle angle. The High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) is also much more audible at elevated idle.

Yeah sounds like my wastegate rattle. Goes away when the exhaust warms up right? 20-30 seconds on mine.

Yes it goes away fairly quickly. Usually no more than a minute

Yeah you’re fine. Sleep well. The cam Phaser thing is way louder like a bike chain slapping the guard and only lasts a few seconds. It’s more of a clatter than a light metallic rattle.

Thankful someone asked this because mine does the same thing and I bought it used with a decent amount of mileage. Was sure I got punk’d when I started reading about the Cam Phaser issues.
