I'm Switzerland here, so don't hate me, but I don't know that I've seen anyone driving a stock raptor that can effectively use all of the power that it has off of the lot when offroad.

I'm not totally certain what most people think they'll get from a monster horsepower desert truck ( "monster" to me would be something over 800hp) because my truck runs out of suspension way faster than it runs out of engine power. As I become a better driver, I can put more of the power to good use, but I still like "wringing it out" and hearing the motor bang off the limiter sometimes.

I do that because to me, it equates to screaming "hell yes" and its fun.

If anything, I wish the manual shifting wasn't so lazy in the truck. I'd take a faster shifting manual mode and paddles that stay static when the wheel is turned before I asked for any additional horsepower.

You do realize that your use of the Raptor probably constitutes less than .5% of what most will ever put their Raptor through. Myself included. So I absolutely agree with your synapsis regarding high HP. Still cant say I wouldn't take some nice hp, say like a Danzio 1000Hp in a little grocery getter Raptor.

He's probably correct on a very ambitious dynojet, but w/ the type of heads/cam swap it'd take to make that power it'll lose alot of "around town manners" if ya feel me. And ALL the hardware is 4x the cost!!!! WAY WAY WAY fewer options out there too. One cam, one set of lifters, push rods, valve guides etc. lol - I'm not entirely dumping on Ford V8s - if you were keeping motor mostly stock & planned on topping it off w/ a blower - then yeah that would make sense. But if your goal is to "keep it simple stupid" & have a more trouble free engine while off the grid AND one that's easier to work on & find more aftermarket part support - then no question, you want a Chevy LSx/LTx crate motor.

If ya don't care too much about extra weight (& honestly I wonder how much a performance heads/cams package would add in weight over a stock Coyote V8?) the Chevy LSX 454 weighs about 120 lbs more....mostly due to an FE block....but its just a basic brute of an engine SOHC 620hp/590TQ & a SINGLE CAM swap will net ya another 50 HP fo sho, give it a nice HD rad for peace of mind if in hot climate, but that sombitch will outlive anything else on the truck if ya treat it right.

Haha - ford "camsssss" swap

A lot of the above is what makes me interested in what people do with the new 7.3. I saw that the youtube page REVan Evan was putting it in a Fox body. Could be a decent durable option. I don’t recall the dyno numbers they were getting with it but I don’t think they were quite as high as the LSX 454 you mention.

An LS swap into my raptor would cost me an easy $60K if I wanted all of the electronics, including the variable braking, torque management and stability control to operate properly.

Going coyote with mild massaging nets me an expedient swap while retaining all factory features.

Losing the turbos and all of the supporting equipment significantly simplifies my truck overall.

I have no intention of having to pay for all of the computer work that is required to make an LS work properly in my raptor. I have no appetite to pay someone to rewire my entire truck to make the simple electronic functions operate properly. ( like windows and locks and stereo).

A coyote swap is the path of least resistance and will serve my needs just fine.

you can find parts all over Baja from coyote engines. Try finding any freaking sensor for the ecoboost in Baja outside of the Ford dealers/warehouses in Mexicali, ensenada or TJ. ( its impossible. can't even find a freaking brake booster for a Gen 1 raptor)

also- my raptor hasn't been driven "around town" in a really long time, unless its for ***** and giggles. It wont ever be a daily again. Not super worried about "daily manners" for my use profile.

completely agree. I'd drive 1000hp raptor on 35s as a daily, but I don't want or need my current truck with that kind of power. ( at least not until someone plugs me into the matrix and instantly grants me the ability to drive like Robbie Gordon or Tom Wayes. )

The 1000 HP danzio is being reserved for a new race truck that I'll hopefully be in for next race season. ( 2021) :angels2:
