Wanted to know how the Grabber compares to the stock BFG's as far as road manners? Are they a rougher ride? Noise? Mannerisms? Thanks in advance.

They're a little louder than stock, but not much. The ride is a little bit rougher (the side walls are quite a bit thicker). I ended up putting the air pressure in the grabbers at 32 psi and they rode almost comparable. For me the extra weight was the most noticeable thing. The BFG's do better on ice and compacted snow, but I think the grabbers traction is better in any other situation.

I completely agree with pirate, but I'll add my thoughts.

I live in the dez, so I've only had mine in snow a couple times, but pirate lives in southwest Colorado (one of my fav places) so his have seen a ton of snow. He can speak to snow performance much better than I can.

If you have exhaust, you probably won't notice the difference in sound on the road very much. The sound difference between them and BFG A/Ts is not as big of a difference as the difference between BFG A/Ts and most Mud/Swamp tires, IMO.

Living in the dez, my Rap obviously gets a lot of opportunities to be in the dirt. I'm in the southern Rocky Mountain chain, right on the border of Mexico... Everything from really hard packed dirt to super-loose/soft dune sand to very rocky high mountain desert is out here, its pretty much perfect terrain for both the Raptor and the Grabbers really. The Grabbers do great in all those situations, where the Grabbers really shine is in the dirt. Great grip in my opinion. Considering that I got defective stock BFG's (Ford replaced them with new ones I have sitting in the garage) that shredded up in a few thousand miles leaving little worthy tread to propel my Rap, I could really feel the change in grip in the dirt after I made the switch.

On-road, the stock BFG's are a more polite tire though.

The downside to the Grabbers is the weight. They are pigs and you can literally feel them weigh and slow the truck down, particularly on the street. It's the price you pay for super-tough sidewall strength... But it is the big con though. We've talked in other threads here about how added unsprung wheel weight aka rotational mass is about the worst place you can add weight to a vehicle. It's true, you feel those extra pounds when accelerating, both on-road and off.

Overall I like these tires though. When it is time for new tires I may buy them again, or I may opt for something really lightweight like the Baja T/As and see how they compare.

Check out some of the other General Grabber threads here for more info, and welcome to the forum by the way.

One of my Stock BFG's messed up from the factory too! Sidewall was coming apart where the tread meets up.

General Grabber tire on-road performance

Anyone with these - how's the noise, etc.? I want to pick up a set, but I don't want deafening tires or anything.

its a BIT louder than the Stock BFG's, just a bit.

you can feel the knobbys pulling out of the driveway, then at speed it goes away. I was surprised at how quiet they are compared to the BFGs.

Longevity? idk.... we will see.
