GordoJay, you haven't been on here as long as some of us. The Gen 1 Raptor was special and nobody cared about 0 - 60mph. The truck was good from the factory but amazing with suspension mods! I never once felt disappointed because of the lack of straight line speed.
Don’t patronize people. Gen 1 was a one trick pony. I drove them when they first came out and they’re unimpressive at best, unless you’re in an environment where you can appreciate the suspension. Otherwise it drives like a slower, lethargic F-150 but with horrendous fuel economy and more body roll.

The Gen 2 was just BS with the TTV6 ecopoop! It drove like shit (turbo lag) and sounded like a POS! Ford screwed over all the loyal Raptor owners and doubled down on the V6 for the Gen 3. That's where they lost a ton a sales to Ram.
Clearly spoken by someone who has never driven one. Your post is BS, Ford built the G2 for people who care about the overall performance of the vehicle and not a single aspect. The 3.5 reaches peak torque well before the old boat anchor 6.2, your “turbo lag” reference is a dead giveaway that you’re trolling. Only an ignorant and closeted individual would write off a newer and better version of a truck based solely on cylinder count. That’s pathetic.
The TRX is a special truck and it's what Ford should have built for 2021, ONLY offering a V8! Enjoy your V6, too bad you weren't around at the beginning of the Gen 1 days, if you were, you'd understand. No Gen 1 owner would ever say they had too much power for the suspension, even with the Roush package.
Like I said, I was around for the “beginning of the Gen 1”, and the G2 and G3 mop the floor with it in every aspect. Stop pretending like you know something everyone else doesn’t, you’re sounding ridiculous. Gen 1’s didn’t have enough power to get out of their own way, and with the “Roush” package they just blow up. Get over your insecurities and stop talking trash.

Lol love all the posts about the V6 being what people wanted :rolleyes: it’s about the government forcing them to reduce emissions guys…This isn’t that hard to understand.
The engine choice in a niche low volume vehicle like the Raptor is not dictated by the government. The Gen 2 3.5 was designed from the ground up for Ford GT and Raptor. Sales have proven its been exactly what people wanted, myself included.

The R is for people who want something more extreme, but at the sacrifice of cost and practicality. It’s the best of both worlds, just choose what you want.

I get what you're saying though. From a purist standpoint it'd be nicer if the V8 version was just the "Raptor" while the V6 version was something like the "Raptor Lite" if they had to have it. Of course Ford would have sold a lot fewer V6 versions with that name, but hey.
No, they would have sold a lot less Raptors, period. Not everyone wants or needs a 700HP truck that costs $110,000. That alienates the large majority of buyers. The non-R Raptor is already fast, especially for a full size pickup. At it’s price and performance point it’s still in a class of 1, why would a company choose to mandate a $30k engine that gets 10MPG when the majority of buyers aren’t even looking for that?

I spoke with a Ford Performance engineer who claimed they were testing a Raptor mule with a Voodoo motor as early as 2017 in preparation for the Gen 3. There's no doubt they planned on a V8 since day 1.
Have you driven a GT350? The 5.2 Voodoo is a masterpiece, but it’s a track car engine at heart. FPCs are soft on the low end and only make power toward the top of the rev range by design. In a truck, that is not in any way ideal, especially a heavy crew cab pickup on 35’s.

The TRX has come up a lot in the last year. My 2021 TRX stickered for $85,000 and now is $100,000 for a 2022 model. The big difference is you can still order a TRX for $10,000 off if you’re willing to wait for the order. I’d guess at best a R if ordered through a magical dealer is MSRP. So out the door pricing is still $110,000 for the R versus $95,000 ish for a TRX with similar options.

Where things get goofy is most R’s are well over MSRP. Again, out the door pricing is the huge difference. Both are great trucks. Both are super expensive!

I agree with all of that and I’d also say I don’t think the R is honestly worth $110k. The Gen1 was $60k and that was great price for a great truck. Now they stick all this tech and crap into them and it makes it insanely priced. A ####ing Ford F-150 didn’t go from $60 to $110 in 7 years…**** on that. If I was a decision maker at ford I’d make a base V8 Raptor with all the crap pulled from it and keep it around $70k. All it needs: V8 / good shocks / 35’s / wiper fluid and let it rip!
Factoring in inflation, that $60k Gen 1 is now $80k. And there is no comparison in terms of features, amenities, safety, efficiency, technology, and performance between a G1 and a 2 or 3. Never mind rust. When you add in a hand built $30k engine that the R has, 110k is not by any means outrageous. And the people spending that kind of money on a truck don’t want a base model level of features.
But I’m just pointing out Ford took an absolute beating when they announced the Gen2 having a V6 only and it was obviously because their hands are being tied. I’d imagine if it were really a free market Ford would of offered a V8 and a V6 and let the free market do what she do.
Sales went up with G2 by a massive amount, because it was finally a high performance package all around and not just an F-150 with high performance suspension.

I'm guessing you have never driven a G2. How the heck can you say it has bad turbo lag? If you think this 3.5 has turbo lag, then you really don't understand what turbo lag is. That engine DOES NOT have turbo lag. Do I think it sounds cool? No. Do I care? No. I'm happy with it being quiet. If you are talking about throttle sensitivity, and calling it turbo lag, just put it in sport mode. Even just in sport mode, no tune, all stock, you are not waiting on the turbos.

Hey brother! I know you've got more years on me so you will understand where I'm coming from....

Compared to a 2019 ZL1 Camaro (which was my 1st boosted vehicle ever) or my TRX, it's got turbo lag. Even after I got an engine and trans tune on my 2019 Raptor which I drove for 40k miles. I agree there is less turbo lag in sport mode. What can I say, I DO NOT like how turbos drive. It's probably fine for most people, but I'm a gearhead! I've driven my 2015 Viper and ZL1 around COTA a few times along with drag racing and street racing growing up. Just a personal preference, I'm not in the "average driver" group. Give me a high horsepower big V8 or V10 with a shifter and I'm happy!

You (could be a great asset to this community), but instead you are a childish dbag! Why are you such a hateful little creature? You should just concentrate on your technical expertise instead of you opinions. I don't disagree that the Gen 1 Raptor is a **** compared to the current Gen 2 and 3. I drove a Gen 1 Raptor for 100k miles and a Gen 2 Raptor for 40k miles. I just didn't like how the V6 with turbos drove. Even after an intercooler, engine and transmission tune.

Before you start insulating people online you should know who you are insulating. Back in 2013 I was swapping my leaf springs for Deavers in Trey's driveway and trying to get every suspension upgrade I could get because it was that much fun driving offroad and jumping going 70mph in Big Bend. The special part of the Gen 1 was all the new product development and people sharing ideas and upgrades that made the truck better offroad.

The Gen 2 was made to appease tree huggers (Government) and appeal to Milennials. I'm not trolling or anti-Raptor at all. I just don't agree with Ford's direction after the Gen 1 or the Raptor R rollout with the high pricetag and dealer allocation nightmare. If you look at my past post I've helped a number of people get in contact with a dealer to purchase a Gen 3 when they were first released.

I'm here for entertainment, to learn and to help people. Advertising that you are a Ford Dealer technician and have a vast knowledge of how these trucks are built and operate, you should hold yourself to a higher standard. You can do better @FordTechOne
