Temporary Plate Expiring...

Let the out of state TX dealer (my bad - lazy) handle the taxes, tags, license. Temporary tag expiring soon and nothing from NM DMV. Reached out to dealer for new temp tag, waiting to hear back. Any other legal options/suggestions.

Not sure how it is in Texas, but in NC you still have to make a payment to DMV for the plate tax because part of it is based upon the county you live in. So you have to pay that tax yourself before the permanent tag is issued. The dealers here sometimes don't do a very good job explaining that.

Just a thought, and may not apply in your situation.

Reach out to your local DMV and see what they have in their system regarding your truck. If there is nothing, that's a problem.

I just pinged my TX dealer for status on tags and he said 6-8 weeks.
That seems crazy coming from a state where the dealer has them in stock to hand to you when you purchase the truck.
It is what it is...

Yup.. heard the same and 8-weeks will be next week and tag is expiring.

In your sales documentation, you should have an itemized list of those charges. That should be sufficient to keep you from getting a ticket but I would still call DMV to verify they have something in process from the dealer.

I got tags in the mail a week after getting the truck last month. I was shocked. It was all in state though.

I’m in TX and the dealer is an hour away from me in TX. It’ll be 3 weeks tomorrow.

Have the TX dealer send you a new temp tag…whether by mail or email until you get it resolved. Had a similar situation where I needed the MCO (manufacture certificate of origin) from the out of state dealer to register my vehicle and temp tag was close to expiring. I reached out to the dealer, explain the situation, and they sent me a new temp tag. Got my plates shortly after.

edit to add…turned out, they mailed the MCO to the wrong place and I had to track it down.
