Hey guys, so I picked out my truck, negotiated price and everything and am ready to go.

Lat minute the dealer told me that two years ago, someone bought a Hellcat and got it shipped and it ended up being Identity theft and they totaled the car etc etc.

So now they so they want me to be there in person whoch is a 12 hour drive and I’d have to get a hotel and gas and drive 700 ish miles etc. plus would take around 2-3 days to do. I don’t have the time or want to deal with the hassle.

told them I’d FaceTime and get things notarized if I had to. I don’t want to lose the deal but also don’t want to have to fly there during this pandemic and just deal with all of that. It’s 2020 I’ve bought many cars sight unseen and had them shipped.

Any advice or has anyone dealt with this? I told them I’d FaceTime and use a notary and they still are insisting I come in person and offering me $250 to do so but the trip would cost me around $1,000 and 2-3 days time

The dealer i purchased my truck from recently shared the same sentiment as the one you are dealing with since i made the purchase from overseas. They also cited liability and worrying about "trusting" that I was being honest about my situation. For me what ended up swaying the tides to get them to agree was using a secure wire transfer from a personal account, and securing my own shipping independent of the dealership. Once both of those were complete and verified they were a pleasure to work with. It’s odd to me that they wouldn’t trust facetime and a notary though, mostly the notary part. Not sure if that helps any but hopefully it sparks an idea that they may like?

if it’s not practical to fly up / drive back, and 12 hours one way is definitely a downer, then you should tell them the deal’s off the table and shop elsewhere. It may be they have another, better interested party and don’t want to sell you the truck, they want to sell to a rube who will pay more.

I would not buy a Rap sight unseen or undriven, but that’s me.

Thanks man. Ya I’m still trying to get them to make it happen. I don’t see where their liability is as yes I’ve ordered the shipping independently and something like that happening again seems extremely rare.

Its cheap money at 3.39% so I’m financing this one with a decent sized down. But obvs that down is coming from my account.

If they still want me to be there and won’t budge, perhaps I’ll see if they can cover my expense at $1,000 and I’ll just eat the couple days time getting it.

really don’t want to go through this all again and it’s the exact truck I want. 2020 Leadfoot crew 802a

It’s not going to get any safer to fly then right now. Airport’s are empty and airlines are actually cleaning airplanes. I love fly and drives. Bought my raptor in San Antonio and drove her home to Boulder. Had to drive West through New Mexico to avoid an ice storm. Fun trip

I believe it will get safer, it’s just a question of how long. But perhaps I just might have to do it. Let’s see what they say. I don’t see how Skype and a notary won’t do it but hey sometimes people are irrational and can’t get over it.

I mean I could still be somebody else (an identity thief) if I went there so I don’t see how being there in person makes a difference. If they want to compare my face to my ID which they mentioned, that can be done on a video conference.

I am also working with a dealership out of state and they mentioned a similar thing about shipping and that they don't have in house shipping but they work with a 3rd party often and gave the companies info. I think it was called direct auto shipping or something like that and I was quoted $500 to ship the Raptor which isn't bad but to make things even sweeter the dealer was willing to come down a bit more to cover about half the shipping so I am going to go with that and have them ship the truck to a commuter lot near my house where I will pick it up.
