Craven Speed sent me their new red dipstick replacement to try out. It's a very cool idea, and looks great under my hood with my red RPG power steering reservoir.

For what it's worth, the Craven Speed replacement dipstick handle does have 2 O-rings which will seal better than the small single O-ring the stock dipstick handle has.

It took about 10 minutes to change it out, so we'll rate this install a solid 1 of 10. It's basically 3 easy steps.

Here's what you get from Craven Speed:

1. Red handle
2. Adapter
3. Retainer Pin
4. Set Screw
5. Allen Wrench (for set screw)

Here are the tools I used:

1. Hammer
2. 5/64" T-handle Allen Wrench
3. Pliers
4. Allen Wrench (Supplied by Craven Speed)

Step 1:

You need to remove the stock yellow handle from the dipstick. I used the 5/64" T-handle Allen Wrench and hammer to tap the stock retainer pin out. I used the pliers to prop the handle up to leave room for the retainer pin to come out the other side. It comes out easily.

Step 2

Install the adapter on the dipstick. You will use the retainer pin supplied by Craven Speed. I had to slightly crimp one end of the pin with the pliers to reduce the diameter enough to get the pin started. Then just tap the pin in until it's flush with the adapter.

Step 3

Slide the adapter into the new handle and secure the set screw with the supplied Allen wrench.

I guess I've never seen anything wrong with the stock handle. And I don't remember seeing any oil around the top or on the handle. Are there other benefits that I'm missing? My truck is so high that I kinda depend on the ring just so I have something to grab a hold of!!!

Don't they also sell a replacement dipstick?

I believe they're working on one, yes.

Nothing is wrong with the stock dipstick handle just like there's nothing wrong with any other of the parts we replace for something cooler

They want $74.95 for their dipstick for the Mini, so I'm wondering what they want for just this handle.
