Adding on a foot of pipe is not going to affect the sound nearly as much as your choice in muffler.
Personally Im a Flowmaster guy, they have tons of options. 50 series will get you slightly louder then stock with no drone. 40 series will get louder with very little drone and super 44 will be nice and loud with noticeable drone at 2000 rpm. Theres even more options then those 3.
Heres a pic for comparison, you pretty much have to add on after the muffler to get the angles to line up with the stock 2.5" outlets.
