Read a few stories on Raptor’s smoking after extended idle times, a State Troopers Ecoboost blowing due to all the engine idle time, etc.

So now on my 2019 Raptor, I’m paranoid about idling for more than a few minutes. Thinking objectively, that’s ridiculous for a new 2019 vehicle.

Sometimes, I’d like to idle for 5-30 minutes for various reasons while waiting on someone, eating lunch in my truck, etc. So, are my concerns unwarranted or warranted?

There’s nothing specifically wrong with idling this vehicle. If you end up smoking or having an issue it’s your vehicle, not Raptors in general.

I have a 2019. I've let it idle for 10-15 minutes pretty regularly this past summer. I'd start the car from my office and let the car cool down from the hot Houston summer days. No issues whatsoever.

I live in the NE - I'd say there's WAYYYY more damage that would occur to this thing from NOT letting it idle & warm up to operating temp vs. starting it getting in & going. My Raptor does NOT sound "happy" when he wakes up first thing on a cold start...after 5-10 mins tho its ready to go. Admittedly w/o any first hand knowledge, I also believe running a high quality synthetic (I use arguably the "highest" - Amsoil signature series 5W30) & allowing the engine to idle for a bit & warm up for 10 mins in cold temps is going to help you avoid gasket leaks & the cam phaser rattle vs. running whatever the dealer/shop dumps in it & cranking it & driving 5 seconds later.

I also am baffled how constantly cycling the engine on/off for fuel efficiency (turned off on mine) could NOT cause excessive wear/tear on starter/ignition & also starve some of the engine for oil in some circumstances. It is all mechanical, starting & stopping over and over again has gotta be worse than starting & idling.......not worse for MPG, worse for mechanical wear

Interesting question. Do youu have a warranty?

Yes, I have a full Ford extended warranty until 8yrs/125k miles, but I still don't like "abusing" my vehicles. Hence, right after starting my truck, I turn off the auto start/stop crap and I'm paranoid about letting it idle for a long time.

Sounds like, at least, my long idle concerns are unwarranted from the initial responses to this thread. :)

Here’s where my truck stands for idle hrs thus far after 22,353 miles- good chunk!
