Back to the forum after years being away!

So I had a first gen raptor that I sold back in 2015 and regret it every day. I'm back in a position to buy another one, but I'm debating between the Raptor and a TRX (don't flame me!). I can order a '22 TRX for 5k under MSRP... but would honestly prefer the Raptor. Problem is, it's buying a TRX for essentially the same price as the Raptor, because can't find a place that'll let me order a Raptor for under MSRP.

The other option is to buy a regular F150 or Ram and wait for the early run on the trucks to die down and buy one when they're more reasonably priced.

Thoughts?

Yeah, tough choice. The Rap is going to be more nimble between the 2, and is quite capable. There will be at least 3-6 months of MSRP being the gold standard for Raptor purchases until demand equalizes.

Once they’re on the lots, you have a better negotiating point with TRXs being available alongside the Rap, which to date has not had any competition.

Debating the same - Granger Ram? No 2022 price list out yet for the TRX, so I’m holding out to see if they jack the prices up first. If they don’t, I’m reluctantly getting the TRX and hoping the ADM market cools in a year or so on the Gen 3 so I can make the switch.
Prolly not the best place to post that I’m jumping into the TRX but Ford hasn’t handled the release of this truck well, and with them shutting Dearborn down I fear there won’t be anything to buy for a while. Stellanis or whatever ***** cure name they are have placed priority on their Halo vehicles with semiconductors so they can gain as much revenue as possible, so they’ll pump out the TRX over the Rebel at the factory.

also heard a rumor they are considering the 6.4 Non SC engine for 2022 to offer something closer to Raptor HP - which does not bode well for the Raptor either in terms of price...

I agree that they will be. It's a matter of whether I want to wait, I guess.

And I do buy in to the idea that the years of experience will benefit the Ford. But I also don't buy in to the idea that the TRX is junk. I've had Titans, Rams, Silverados, and F150s and have had the best experience with the Rams and the Fords.

Yeah Granger!! Supposedly they'll do the Raptor at MSRP as well, but hard to justify the difference even then. Now if the Raptor were under MSRP, I'd likely lean Raptor.

I think it's a terrible time to buy a truck. Can you wait a year or two?

Yes I can! Don't really want to though. But I will if needed.

I can get into a Ram limited for maybe 1.5k more than two years ago. And do you think the TRX will drop a lot below 5k under sticker?

That's my dilemma. I can get into a Ram of either type for likely a "normal" price. Would have to wait on the Ford.

if you're going to wait a year, than don't just base your decision on purchase price but on resale value. It doesn't matter if the TRX you want costs $10k more than the Raptor, or vice versa if the value drops very little a year later, whole the other one drops like a rock. It's a pretty safe bet that Raptors will hold their value well. TRX is another matter.

Also, there will theoretically be a lot of vehicles to choose from if you're looking for a high end truck, all of them still considered 'new'. Raptor, Raptor R, TRX, Lightning, Rivian, Cybertruck, Hummer....not to mentioned the loaded versions of everything else. I wouldn't be surprised if all of these are a bit hard to come by, but you do have some leverage in options.

5 years down the road the raptor will be worth more than the trx. If hp is all you’re looking at hold off for the raptor r

My take. The supply pipeline on Ford trucks is currently dry. The Ford dealer near me is one of the larger dealerships in the Northwest. Their lot is empty. They have no inventory to speak of. They can't get vehicles. Not just trucks but anything. Normally they have several hundred F-Series/SD's in stock. If this is an example of dealerships across the country it is going to take time to fill the pipeline back to what it was. Two fold problem with that. #1 which trucks are Ford going to build? One model that sells 20k-25k units per year (Raptor) or the one that sells 600k+ per year (F150). This I feel is going to make the first run of Raptors very sparse. The second part of that issue is supply and demand on the Raptors keeping the prices high and ADM's very high. I don't see this improving until 2022-2023. Hopefully I am wrong, but the writing is on the wall.
