2017 - 2020 differences

Hey everyone,
I was looking at gen 1 raptors, but since the market is so crazy if I am spending that much I can get a good gen 2 for not unreasonably more, given newer and much lower miles. However I am not as well versed in the second generation and would appreciate some assistance.
- Any changes they made year to year from 2017 up to 2020, suspension, power, software/firmware, functionality or creature comforts.
- Recommendations on which year in gen 2 is best and why?
- Important recall/TSB/faults to be aware of (such as fuse 27 and lead frame replacement on gen 1)
If you have links to threads already discussed or youtube or just basic explanations I would appreciate any and all input

There's other people far more informed than I, but off the top of my head the change from 17/18 to 19/20 that stands out is Fox Live Valve shocks in place of the the standard 3" Fox shocks. 17/18 Also had a Cam Phaser TSB that has been thoroughly addressed, and may have applied to some 19 MY trucks but I'm not positive.

17/18 had plastic oil pans right? Or depending on build dates. Not sure exactly.
17’s come with CD players and color changing ambient lighting…

I'm pretty sure 2019 was the year for biggest changes:
- live valve shocks
- both base wheels and beadlocks are different
- relocated shark fin antenna
- blue only ambient lighting
- b&o system instead of Sony
- different drive modes
- stop and go cruise control
- terrain crawl

Get a 2020. The shift points are WAY better over a 17-18. Also, Ford fixed the cam phaser issue on the 20s. No plastic oil pan. Only concern is that front and rear camera may have to be replaced given the recall on the 20s, but it’s nothing to be concerned with. I had multiple Gen 1s and none of them will touch my 2020. The Live Valves on the 19-20s are nice too.

The good/bad news is the market is so nuts…that unless you find a smoking good deal, your 2019/2020 search will lead you to within striking distance of a new Gen 3.

My dealership gave me 70k for my 2019 with 16,000 miles on it. They listed it for 75k. Fully loaded my 35” Gen 3 was ~78k.

So I would agree that ‘19/‘20 had the most enticing changes…but probably not worth the extra coin if you can find a nice 17/18 somewhere.

My 2017 shifted better than my 2020. Sometimes my 2020 gets a firm clunk when it downshifts from 5th to 3rd. It doesn't really bother me but my 2017 didn't do that.

You would be in the minority. Nearly any person that owned a 17-18 and a 20 would tell you the 20 shifts/runs better.

Mine is a late 18: no shift problems or cam phaser repair.
