I have a dunes trip coming up, so I'm looking at upgrades to be ready. I don't have any power steering issues yet and I want to keep it that way.

Has anyone used one of these as a power steering cooler?

I'm thinking about plumbing this in with an inline filter. My system is stock otherwise. I'm not entirely convinced the reservoirs are worth the cost, so will this give me some good insurance?

With my stock res my PS would whine and moan pretty quickly while off-road and had to be replaced at 33k. It wasn't much better at first when I went with a PSS reservoir tank and cooler.

With the PSS res, the fill line was way to low and the bleed valve at the top would still spray fluid! I went from factory fluid to Royal Purple synesthetic PS fluid that helped with the whining and groaning. I experimented with fluid level filling the PSS res almost to the top and that really made a major difference. And I didn't notice any more fluid spray from the bleed valve at the top. To fix that I just put a sock over the res while off-road. It got dirty nothing else did :)

I upgraded the reservoir from PSS to RPG and that was the best combo. The RPG tank was sealed with a drain hose that goes to the ground. No more PS fluid on the engine! As for my PS pump, it now has 63k on with lots of off-road abuse.

At Oceano Dunes with tire pressure around 13PSI I never hear the PS pump whine or groan. At first I watched the temps and the fluid never really got hot with no cavitation. Current RP fluid has well over 40k and doing fine.

I can't speak for the setup you have it will not help much if you run the stock reservoir tank. You will still get a lot of fluid splashing around inside with cavitation that causes air pockets. That is where the whine and groaning starts.

Ok so I bought a new reservoir and cooler with electric fan. Was going to do the install today and now I’m so confused. The ps low and high pressure lines run in line with the transmission cooler. So the same fluid going through the trans is the same fluid going through the ps pump?

wouldn’t this completely negate the whole concept of the bigger reservoir and the need for the additional cooler??

Those cooler are segregated, they do not mix the fluid. AND that is the AC condenser, not the trans cooler that the factory PS cooler is stacked on.
