while i wasnt rich enough to rebuild my motor after every event, my motor and turbos were always checked after each race. rebuild happened when we broke something, or when my mechanic friend said it was time, but regardless, inspection happened every time. i dont think these #2 owners are going to check their turbos after going offroad. the biggest thing for me is that this can be tested all they want in baja. i dont care. have you ever been to a raptor event? its follow the leader in dry dusty summer conditions out in the desert. and you happen to be 10th in line. when things get tested in baja or wherever, they always have a clear path in front of it. they dont intentionally follow someone dust, no they get out of the dust so they can haul ass. these events that are follow the leader (just about all of them) will be the true test as to how these turbos work in the offroad world. i have driven home from every offroad event (12 or so) and continued on my normal ways taking my truck in for service when it told me to. never have i had to take it in early due to motor issues from an offroad event. so if these ecoboosts can do the same for 100k miles, im open to be proven wrong and will accept that. but until we see it being pushed hard ( @RDFTS can testify) and pushed hard repetatively i am just not a believer right now.

Explain that a little more to me about how a s/c motor or an n/a motor is at any less risk than a turbo charged motor in those conditions? Not trying to be a smart ass, but there are plenty of turbo motors in trophy trucks and rally cars that are in horrible conditions all the time and they do very well. In race applications do they get rebuilt? Sure, but so do n/a motors that are being beat on for hours upon hours after a race.

I just don't see how a turbo motor is more fragile than any other motor in that situation?

So I'm genuinely interested to hear your feedback as to the specific risks you see with this motor.

^^Sport. You're dreaming if you think your Gen 2 Raptor will be doing what that trophy truck is doing in the video. That's a professional team that probably breaks down their motor after every race to avoid catastrophic failure in the future...Unless you have very deep pockets, that won't be happening on an off the shelf Raptor, Gen 1 or 2...

In order to handle the extremes of off-road racing, the production F-150 Raptor has been upgraded by Foutz Motorsports. The production truck’s internal-bypass Fox Racing Shox have been replaced by a set of race-optimized, 3-inch-diameter Fox Racing Shox featuring an external bypass. The off-road race truck gets a new set of front and rear springs for increased ground clearance and compression for off-road racing.

I seem to remember Ford reps saying something about the Raptor R and the production Raptor having the same engine, with a couple minor differences in the head and tuning... Ford folks always tell the truth, ESPECIALLY when marketing a new product.

I can't wait until they are out. That said as @PropDr stated the ram is intriguing I dislike dodge but like the people before that disliked ford until the raptor I'd defiantly check it out that dodge thing.
