Have you been paying attention for the last 10 years? This is the MO for virtually every car company. Hell Ferrari hits you for $4k to add CarPlay lol.

right. people were speculating the option wouldn'tbe that expensive

All in all Ford has hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in this package that you claim only costs them $1k; that is simply not the case.

Let's round up your hundreds of thousands to a cool million.

Now divide that by how many Raptors they sell.

We're talking under $100.00 per truck. BFD

Each new model requires full environmental and safety testing, from scratch. We're talking tens of millions. And yes, putting bigger tires on it makes it a new model. That's typically why low-volume vehicles get the axe. Things like the Raptor SCAB or the Taco longbed cost so much to qualify that car companies can't make the money back and a profit too without pricing themselves out of the market. Ford has a volume and price target that allow it to make a minimum profit margin. That will make it cost more from the get go.

Now, think about it from a marketing perspective. It's a halo vehicle. It's the high-end trim. Ford could easily build 100,000 of them every year. But it has to be expensive and hard to get or it won't have the halo. If anyone could just go down to the lot and choose the color and options they wanted at a semi-reasonable price, exclusivity goes out the window. That doesn't work.

So the bean-counters and marketing clowns sit down and calculate price and volume targets that satisfy both requirements. Bottom line, it's going to cost you. A lot. A couple of years into gen3, when exclusivity drops and development costs are paid down, Ford will be motivated to increase volume. That's when you'll start to see deals. Late 2022 at the earliest for V6, late 2023(or never) for V8, but because 2021 is such a short run, I'd start looking for deals in 2023 and 2024 respectively. If the price/value thing rules your world, buy the entry-level trim. It's usually priced so they can advertise an attractive starting price. Downside is that they option them in a way that few will actually buy one. If you can live with that, you'll get a better deal.

If the package costs $1M, and $100/truck, that means 10k Raptors sold with this package. Being that Ford sells south of 900k F150s a year, 10k Raptors with this particular package seems possible, but too many unknowns to say for sure. Besides, I don't think that $1M is just WAG, and would only include dev costs, surely not parts for 10k trucks.

I have no doubt that Ford is making a profit, as they should. Ford should charge to cover their costs as well as what the market should bare to maximize profits. If that means I can't afford it, then that's the way it should be.

It should. AmericanTrucks did a YT video on existing f150 mods that work on the 21 F150s. Bed covers was one of them. And of course, Raptors don't have unique bed dimensions.

Exhaust is the only thing I've heard that people expected would transfer over that actually doesn't. However, I can't see anyone upgrading the Gen 3 exhaust.

Do you know when the model changed? I have a BAK Revolver 4 on my 2019. It is in really good condition. I went to their website and mine says it fits the 2020, but not a 2021.

I’ve got the mx4 hard folding with the truck box. It’d be nice to try and save a buck when your buying a expensive ride. Also I wonder if the Cobb accessport tuners will be able to be used on the 2021 ?

I doubt Cobb will work on the 2021 as the GEN3 raptor will be running a new version of the 3.5L. GEN3 will run version 3 while the GEN2 ran v2.

why would it say 2021 when the 2021 is not out yet? And yes the 2021 F150 is out but it has only been out for 2 months.

I am sure most tonneau cover manufacturers need to look at the 2021s and see if the size is different.

BTW ... I removed my GEN1 2013 Raptor cover and ran it on my 2019 Raptor with no issue.
