I would say the difference in your estimates is one is repairing that pinch weld on the cab the proper way and one is not, that was my hunch. That is where all the money would be on this claim. It is a big job to replace that correctly. Aluminum repair is much more expensive at body shops, many are not even certified yet due to the cost of special tools.

Just left one Auto Body shop and he said that it’s just the bracket that was ripped and that will simply just be replaced. I haven’t received his estimate yet but he made it sound like an easy job.

2 of the Shops from the ford website said it’s not a big deal

The Shop referred to me by Galpin Ford is the only one (so far) making it seem like a big deal. I’ll update as I get more info.

That is good, I hope it works out for you. I would not want the truck dissected down to nothing for a simple repair.

I hope you like this friend of yours, I would be furious!!!!

He’s more of a friend of a friend...

I didn’t know that your financially liable for anyone who drives your vehicles. I just assumed his insurance would cover it. I let my buddies drive my cars all the time. That shit is not happening get anymore.

He should be able to file it on his insurance if he agrees to. He probably doesnt want to. When you drive a rental car it still falls under your insurance policy unless your buy insurance from the rental company. Otherwise there would be tons of people driving rentals completely uninsured. I also know I filed a claim on my insurance when I was driving an ex's car and changed lanes into someone without their headlights on. Im sure it can be done. He probably just doesnt want to.

I called my insurance and tried to tell them the same. They said his insurance will claim they insure his car and not him. Either way his insurance has been notified by both him and my insurance. I’m just hoping it stays around the 5k mark and doesn’t blow up to that 17k number.

he must have been backing up and turning while the front end swung around and hit the pole.

Looks like minor damage as others have said.

Good luck with your repair!

Tell him to go to his insurance and tell them he was driving the truck and he wants to file it against his policy. Make them show you the contract saying they insure only his car.
