I usually go 10k between changes with fully synth oil. My oil life meter is at 3% with only 5k miles...

I have 5k miles and mine shows 60%. I think the meter is based on driving style and engine analysis.

I dropped my first oil after a few thousand, waste of money. With an aviation background I cut open the oil filter and there wasn't a single metal shaving anywhere in the entire element. This was a first for me. I recently ran my oil 10,000 miles and sent a sample to Blackstone, oil was still good to go and had enough additives to run past 15,000 miles. Unless you don't drive far enough to heat the oil up enough to boil off the humidity, according to Ford and Blackstone, a change short of 10,000 is a waste of money.
My problem is working on cars for a living has jaded me big time. I've seen people ruin a 40k vehicle over a 40 dollar oil change. To me there's no benefit trying to stretch oil change mileage just to save a miniscule amount of money, especially with such a large investment like we have with our trucks.

Yeah, I stand by my 5k miles or 1 year oil changes for all my vehicles. Not just for the oil change though. I do all my own work and every 5k miles is usually a couple months, so it gives me the opportunity to pull the skid plates and inspect the underside of the vehicle.

The majority of "people" truly have no idea how/why their vehicle operates or doesn't operate, so they're at the mercy of whatever shop/goon they take it to. Also an unfortunate situation is that there are more than a few "service" shops that take advantage of those people by performing unnecessary work on their vehicle. Sometimes as a logical measure to prevent another problem from occurring later, and sometimes just a trick to squeeze more cash from the customer without actually doing the work.

Conventional oil, yes. Synthetic oil doesn’t really break down. Synthetic loads up with contaminates and the anti-wear additives break down. The days of popping a valve cover and seeing coal caked to the valve springs are long gone with synthetics.

That could explain why the V6 engine in my 2012 Toyota Highlander with 125,000 miles looked almost new when the valve cover was opened up. Toyota synthetic every 10,000 miles per Toyota recommended maintenance.

Really not true. Talk with the Toyota, Audi, and VW owners with sludged engines even though they used the specified synthetic motor oils for the recommended intervals. Synthetics will shear out of grade via mechanical action, or thicken-up due to viscosity index improvers breaking down. While much better than conventional oil, synthetics are not immune to damage.

I dropped the oil at 650 miles and yes it's probably a waste. I really just wanted to see how difficult the oil change was gonna be with all the skid shields. I love getting this truck on the lift and looking at all the cool stuff under there, It's amazing how much different it is from a regular F150. For the oil I just used the Motorcraft oil and filter that the manual recommends..

Agree that synthetics are not immune to damage, but proper 10K intervals have worked well for me across 17 cars and 27 years. You have to to unlearn what you have learned about oil. Started using Mobil 1 full synthetic with my corvette in 1992 and never looked back. Most of these cars were 100K mile cars when I was done with them.

I just got this analysis back from blackstone, thought yall might like to see it. 10k miles on this oil, third change (first was at 7500, second at 15,000). First change I did myself - apparently one of the dealer techs stripped out a torx bit on my skid plate, thankfully I was able to get it out but I let my service manager know. Would have been pissed if I couldn't get to my oil filter with my oil drained.

Anyway, here it is:
