Trading in a car at a dealership is going to get you less money almost 100% of the time. Unless you're trying to trade something no one wants or are short on time/patience selling private party is the way to go. I buy and sell cars all the time and I've only traded in one car in like 10 years, everything else has been sold on craigslist and I've almost always gotten back like 90% of that I paid. A couple of cars I got back more than I paid. A 2008 H2 SUT (was fresh out of basic training cut me some slack) and a 2013 FJ Cruiser both sold for more than I paid because they were out of production. I broke even on my 2015 Nissan GT-R when I sold it. I always take a car by a dealer to get a trade appraisal before I sell it so I can see how much I would have lost.


you should offer your services and take a cut of the sale price

Not everyone's cup of tea but to feed my cravings of speed and off road I have the Raptor and the Focus RS. Raptor is the daily and the RS is when I need speed (mid 11sec 1/4 miles).20190114_104936.jpg

you might want to check out the F80 CS. Dealers are discounting them around $15K, and with strong residuals, they're leasing for around a thousand or under. If you're able to grab one at $85K (100K MSRP), the CS will hold value better than other F80s and would be a smart buy at $85K.
Really? I'd much rather buy the CS than the comp or regular F80. I had no idea these were being marked down. Thx for the info, will def give it a check. Probably going to keep this tank for a while now bc I'll lose a lot if I sell about now.

I'd love to trade for that!!! Or just imagine this next to a leadfoot raptor!! Oh boy, this is going to result in some very poor financial decision making :D i love it!!

Sold my F80 M3 a few months ago, picked up Raptor this week. Have always loved them and would have both if I could, but the M3 has limitations. That said I get a little bored with anything after a while. Two totally different vehicles but I’m hoping I appreciate the versatility of the Raptor a bit more.

I would second looking at comp/cs packages. The stock F80 lacked some of the “M” magic over previous iterations but seems to be improved with the comp/cs packages. Powerful car but it struggles at times putting it all down on the pavement. Just my two cents

I echo your thoughts completely. I currently own an F80 M3 and just picked up a new Raptor so i'm still in the new relationship phase with the Raptor and I will have had the F80 for almost 3 years now. I am ready to get rid of the M3, to be honest the thing that bothered me most of the F80 is it sounds terrible IMO. I originally thought i'd get over it but I never did. I don't love the turbo lag and squirliness it gets, you really need to keep the revs high on that car. I mean the raptor doesn't sound great either, but i'm more willing to forgive the raptor than a sports car.

I would agree to definitely look at the CS as it gives it a bit more M magic like Fury Road said, and it will definitely help with resale value. I know the CS has the M sport exhaust, not sure how much better it sounds over the base exhaust so that might be something to consider. I would also definitely drive a few F80's and really experience the car at high revs, it sounds fine on a cold start and idling and under 4k rpm, it's when it gets to the top of the revs that bother me the most.

Thankfully I leased the M3 so it's going back in the few months for a GT3, i'm done with turbos.

I had my F80 and sold it. Got the raptor and picked up a F90. Raptor does take some
Time to get use to. But I love both..

I did the opposite of what you are now doing. I originally wanted a Raptor, but instead I purchased a F80 M3. That was up until last night when I finally sold the M3 and purchased my Raptor.

I’m 36 years old with a bad back. I can not for the life of me, see how some people daily drive their M3. The car is so rigid and low to the ground, getting in and out of the car was such an arduous task. The seats in the M3 are some of the most uncomfortable seats I’ve ever sat in. Sadly after only 1500 miles my body couldn’t take it anymore LOL.

But with that said, the M3 was also one of the most thrilling cars I’ve owned. It was a rocket ship, and the power always took me by surprise. The platform has so much untapped potential. Some downpipes and a tune and cars are putting down 500+.

One thing you have to take into consideration is the maintenance. The M3 is a rolling computer, and you will be paying a premium on any service. That //M tax is real my friend. Good luck with your choice.
