Tune = Void Powertrain Warranty

I jumped on the tuning wagon early with my Lightning when they first came out. I didn't have any negative issues but I did learn to wait. Had I waited I wouldn't have spent money with several different tuners and programs. I could have bought one and been done. On my Raptor I will wait. I want to see what comes out and how well/bad they work.

Hey all


So I talked to my dealership today and asked about tunes and impact on the warranty. They have many customers who tuned and said that it is exceedingly rare tunes have really caused any issues. However, they also made it clear that ford would deny any powertrain issues if a tune was applied AT ALL. This seems to be what most here have stated as well.

So my question for the group is this.

How many GEN 2 owners have tuned right after purchase and have you had any issues?

I tend to wait 6 months or 5K miles before I start just to make sure any initial issues get resolved at the dealer

I have a aFe Cold Air Intake System Limited Edition Magnum Force Stage 2 with Pro 5R filter. It through a misfire code after installing, but Engine light cleared off dash after disconnecting negative battery terminal and driving for 100 miles. Got so excited over added throttle response and CEL disappearing, that I went out and bought the Ford Performance/Borla Sport exhaust with Carbon Fiber tips( M-5200-F15RSCF ). Ford dealership installed the exhaust system for me and I love the performance that I have currently with NO tune done as of yet. 2017 Supercrew Raptor -V- Challenger Hellcat? My Raptor took him out........on a rainy day though, road was drenched, and I was in Weather mode 4A.Just gunned it...seems like every time I gun it and test it to see what it's got, I throw a misfire code. My question is...with said performance mods above, will these mods void my warranty? If not, how do I get my rig to stop throwing misfire codes without doing a tune? I was seconds away from ordering a tune before reading this thread on costs for repairs. Also seconds away from throwing Factory intake back on, thinking it is the increased volume of air reaching the turbos causing the CEL

You will not be able to get rid of the code. Only option is to swap in the colder plugs and gap .028.... that might do it, but not guaranteed

F/P would retain the warranty with their tune, but would be much more conservative.

Everyone keeps stating this but Ford Performance power packs reduce tuned vehicle powertrain warranty to 3 years 36k. By the time the FP tune comes out most of the trucks will be over this mileage anyway...

Performance Packs and Components are warranted for factory-supplied material or workmanship when correctly
and completely installed on a late model Ford vehicle by an authorized Ford or Lincoln Dealer, Shelby American,
Inc., mountune LLC or an automotive service technician certified by the Institute for Automotive Service Excellence
(ASE) or endorsed by the Red Seal Program (RSE). This Performance Packs and Components Limited Warranty
begins upon installation and registration of the part(s) with Ford Performance and remains in effect for the balance
of 36 months or 36,000 miles / 60,000 kilometres, whichever occurs first, calculated from the start date of the
manufacturer's New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
Installation of these select Ford Performance and mountune warranted performance packs and
components by an authorized installer will NOT void your New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Engine, driveline
and suspension concerns not caused by the use of Ford Performance or mountune parts remain eligible for warranty
coverage according to the terms of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

You have no idea and don’t own a raptor.

The cel is from a perceived air leak coming from a tiny vacuum line tied into the intake.

The only way to fix it is to place your stock intake back or have a tune recalibrate the sensor to not detect it as an air leak.

It’s a harmless code otherwise to the engine.

^^^ guy - you are too funny!

OP - if you do some reading here, the different plugs like I said sometimes solve the problem. I would not bother with the poster “Guy”... nothing valuable there.
