If they can put power numbers together more efficiently I am all for it. I love my Raptor, but I am not against them furthering the product and making it better.

Raptor is not just about numbers. Ford took a big gamble with the Raptor and it paid off. They've created a premium brand. And it's built not only on quality and performance, but on image. And say what you will about v6s, they are, well, only sixes. A big v8 in the Raptor is part of the brand. They made a big deal about it when they switched to it. It's part of the Born in Baja movie.

It's like putting a v6 in a Vette. GM has all sorts of cars and 4s and 6s. But putting a v6 in a Vette? That would kill the brand. They are not that stupid. Neither is Ford.

Ford can come up with a Raptor successor - call it the Cheetah or the Rhino or the Bronco 3 or whatever. Put and Eco whatever in it. But please dont F up the Raptor brand.

Sorry, but the badass factor of the Raptor would go down several notches with a v6. Hey, no insult intended to Ecoboost owners. You want good performance and good MPGs? Get an Ecoboost. You want the most bad ass off road truck? Get a Raptor. Screw MPGs.

I don't know if there will be a day when I can take a rice burner enthusiast serious about an off road truck. He is clearly trying to say the same engine setup will work in the desert. So where's the proof? Why wasn't the Eco available in the raptor yet?

We get it, you drive pavement princesses and would like nothing less from a truck you buy.

Turbo or supercharged v8 in the raptor? Sweet!

V6 turbo? No thx

Weird, I guess owning two AMERICAN MADE Jeeps, both with V8s, make me a rice burner enthusiast. Is it because I own a Subaru? Guess what? Its made in the USA too. Good try but you fell pretty short on that comment.

Also the only 'pavement princess' I own is the Subaru. Furthermore my lifted Jeep has trail rash, dents, and dings all over it from heavy offroad use. I live in Wyoming so trails are minutes away. Im currently fixing my driveline after I snapped the rear driveshaft so while Im in there the NP249 is getting swapped with a fresh NP242. But I digress.

Like I said earlier when BMW went from the I6 to the big bad v8 now back to the TT I6 that didnt ruin the brand nor did it make it 'less badass'. Yes its not a truck but its the same damn concept. Its a premium brand switching things up and figuring out what works for motor choices.

Most of the Raptors around where I live are always clean, always perfectly detailed, and never have a spot of mud so I could easily make the case that most Raptors are pavement princess status trucks like most trucks and 4 door Jeeps on the road these days.

But Ill bow out and let the v8 circle jerk continue even though nobody has given a good explanation why the ecoboost is such a horrible choice of motors. I guess some people think their manhood is in jeopardy with a smaller motor, who knows.

Nope, sorry. Can't compare BMW with Ford like that. Two completely different animals. Luxury cars vs. muscle cars vs. off road trucks. American made vs. European. Not the same concept. The V8 is a much bigger part of American cars than any other country. It's part of our history. And the Raptor is not about refinement. It's about power and capability off road.

Why would Ford jeopardize it's premium off road brand (in which it stands virtually alone among top automakers, sorry Jeep) with a v6? What would be the purpose? CAFE standards? Bah. Screw the EPA. They don't make that many Raptors to make a difference anyway. But the ones they do make they're not going to neuter their image in an engine experiment. They'd be fools if they did that.

This, of course, is just my humble opinion...

You can probably find a v6 circle jerk on a bmw forum since I guess that's what you're looking for?

Zboater- I agree with you all the way. It loses it's luster, bad-ass mojo, and mystique with a 6. No matter how good, or fuel efficient, or whatever. It is a muscle truck, for an American muscle car society. I sure as hell did not buy this truck for gas mileage. I do not even like them lightening the truck up by 700 pounds. I want it to be a tank. Surely Ford is not that stupid. The raptor's will not sell like they do now with a 6 in it. Period. Turbo or not.

The Eco boost in an F150 isn't that much better than a 5L. I have an '11 F150 5L, my sales guy has an identical F-150 but it has an Eco boost. On the highway our MPG is within 1-2 MPG, he does get 2-3 better when driven just in town, so for me the additional complications of a turbo just isn't worth it.
Personally, I see issues with a turbo off road. Yes, construction equipment is turboed, but I can't recall seeing a backhoe or excavator jumping, they don't get pounded like a Raptor does.
What I would like to see is a 5 L with a bit of tune put in the next gen Raptor.
