From what I've heard/read its not a good idea. Stock sub was specifically made for that box, plus the plastic is cheap and an aftermarket sub would still sound bad

correct. the oem sub has a bolt in the bottom that goes through the box i to the woofer. this is to help keep the box from flexing. aftermarket woofers dont have this threaded hole. the box is made of flimsy plastic and any sub that moves more air than the oem will sound worse due to the box flexing too much. also the oem box is too small for aftermarket applications
