If you don't have nor want to buy an allen wrench that size you just need a bolt and nut that size. Fit in and tighten. Oh, to remove you might want to get two nuts so one jams the other going counterclockwise.

WTF did they use that type of plug instead of one that a square 1/2" drive fits in like, oh- I don't know, every other diff fill plug ever made?

I'm a little concerned about the height of the fill plug, looks like the bottom of the fill plug is level with the center of the axle tubes.
If you fill to that level it would be too much fluid and can cause foaming.

The recommended amount with a stock cover is 2 3/4 quarts (in the owners manual)
But 3 quarts as is stated in the Ford official fluid charts.

My question is, did the 4 quarts fill it to the fill plug?

I have the AFE diff cover and that only took a little more 4 1/2 quarts.
