King Shock’s new bolt-on, OEM performance kit for the Ford, Raptor delivers increases in wheel travel, damping force and overall performance when compared to the stock suspension. King’s engineers have spent countless hours tuning the shock valving to enhance off-road performance without compromising the Raptor’s on-road manners.
The front monotube, 3-inch diameter coilover with King’s Wide Range Compression Adjuster has over twice the piston surface area to provide greater damping control and 20 precise clicks of compression adjustment to fine tune the ride for any type of terrain. The nitrogen charged remote reservoirs help to cool the shock fluid and prevent shock fading when you need performance most.
In the rear, the kit comes with a race proven 3-inch diameter, triple bypass shock with nitrogen charged, “Piggyback” remote reservoir. The bypass tubes adjust both compression and rebound damping to provide total control throughout the travel range.
Like all King shocks, they are made in the USA to strict precision tolerances using the finest billet materials available and are serviceable with simple hand tools. When the time comes, you can rebuild your King shocks to factory fresh condition for many more years of reliable service. If you want uncompromising performance from your Raptor, nothing else provides the durability or control that King does. When you ride on Kings you’ll know, there really is a difference. This is exactly why we will run Kings. Fox Shocks are good if you want to be

What would be the next level of upgrading the suspension beyond the King 3.0's? Something with more travel? I suppose that requires other auxiliary parts, such as new control arms. What would be the minimum cost of such a next stage upgrade?

Skys the limit. How big is your check book. Don't be fooled by everything you see.. depending on what you want to do is how much travel you need.

The only way to get more "travel" is to repostion the suspension or make everything wider or longer.

There will be some new stuff coming to market soon that will answer all your questions.

Here is a video of bypass shocks in action.

The sound you all hear is the tappets opening and closing inside the shock. Noise levels are affected by things like the weight of the tappets, internal measures to help slow them down ect... Fox does a very good job of this, but still impossible to make silent. The best solution is the 3.0 internal bypass coming from Fox if you are concerned about noise reduction.

As cool as externals are for adjusting and asthetic looks, they aren't always the best choice for the casual off-roader. Also, anybody who has ridden dirt bikes or tracked motorcycles knows that when you start turning the clickers without the knowledge of someone who knows what they are doing, typically results in a worse handling machine because of the wrong adjustments made.

It comes down to your intended use. If you want performance you upgrade, if you just drive on the street then you can probably get by with the stock shocks. Twin-tube, Internal bypass shocks have an inner sleeve for the shock bore. A 3” twin-tube is still only a 2.5” bore. The bigger the bore, the more surface area of the piston, which means more damping force can be generated. With greater damping you have more control. External bypass shocks do have valves that open and close making a clicking sound but most people get used to it, some don’t even notice it from inside the truck.

If you pack your bed full of gear or tools, haul a bike or pull a trailer you need the adjusters to tune the suspension for the additional weight. I was talking to Buddy Crisp a while back who drove a support Raptor with King shocks during the Rip to the Tip motorcycle run. He loaded a bike and gear into the bed for the trip up to Mikes Sky Ranch. He made a slight adjustment to the rear bypass shocks and the truck rode the same as it was when empty. Having the ability to fine tune your shocks gives you much more capability and driving pleasure from your Raptor.

What are your thoughts (concept only, not specifics about any one system) about combining your shocks with the various aftermarket bump stop/brace systems that have been developed for the Raptor? Do the Kings incorporate an internal bump stop "zone" (for lack of a better term)?

This has been a great dialog and very helpful to those of us currently considering moving to an aftermarket shock. Thank you. :waytogo:
