When I'm done with my trip to the service dept later next week to fix the sensor, I'll probably use a silicon spray on the trailer electronic components - based on what Ford recommends. Although Vaseline is what I've typically used in the past - silicone is lighter and may last longer.
That is what I would use as well. Auto parts stores sell silicone grease in a can that works pretty well.

This is the stuff you need...
Permatex® Dielectric Tune-Up Grease:
Protects electrical connections and wiring from salt, dirt and corrosion. Extends the life of bulb sockets. Prevents voltage leakage around any electrical connection. Also prevents spark plugs from fusing to boots.
