its how the 4wd works. vacuum keeps the front disengaged. if its leaking it could be partially engaging it causing to grind. then since its partially engaged the torsion front diff could be in use and causing the heavy steering wheel feeling. not trying to scare u with a bigger problem just its a possibility since u hear slight grinding.

Well the grinding seems to be an alignment or tire issue. Went away after doing both. Steering is still a little hard but oh well. I'm already used to it.
