I don’t think any dealer is eating tax for anyone.

Some are required by state law to collect it at the time of sale, other states collect it when you register

Agree, they can't 'eat' tax, it has to be a line item on the paperwork.

My deal a few weeks back was trade-in 2019 Raptor and a check that included everything else - remaining $, tax, fees, etc. Yes, tax was a line item in the deal sheet, but I told them what I would write a check for and they backed into each of the line items.
