No, you don't have to hit resume. It will resume when the vehicle in front of you goes.

You will have to hit resume if the vehicle in front of you does not resume within 3 seconds.

i didn't test it for long, but in most traffic situations I think 3 seconds is fine to reset. I was in slow moving traffic where it would almost stop and then would go to 40 and then back down at the next exit.. never touched the brake of throttle once in 20 minutes.

In stop and go it works fine. If you plan on stop light to stoplight driving and expecting it to do the driving for you it will not. To much time expires.

You may be right. 3 seconds is longer than you think, but I thought I was stopped on the freeway longer than that, but maybe not. I will have to time it.
