I have encountered similar conditions. First as a kid driving to a southern California ski resort with my dad asleep in the back of the van, on an Indiana highway enroute to my sister's house for a holiday visit, and just earlier this year in an early season storm in Wyoming. It's a bit nerve wracking when you can only make out the side of the road intermittently, you can't see what you're about to run into, and you have no idea what's about to hit you from behind. It fails the Fun Factor Test!

It's a high velocity whiteout in northern Nevada right now. The NWS sent warnings to our phones, and not 5 minutes later the visibility dropped to between 75 and 100 yards with horizontal wind-driven snow. Fun to watch from inside with a cup of hot coffee in hand. I think I should pray for the snowplow drivers.
