NEW Ford Raptor "Dead Pedal" Fabrication!

I can't tell from the pics how much the parking brake pedal clears when fully depressed, but would it be possible to have a piece that extends to the left of the dead pedal and wraps underneath so that your anchor points would be under the floor mat? Either that or would it be possible to simply extend the upper mounting point to mount to the three steering column nuts like Ruger did in his DIY version. Having multiple top mount points negates the need for bottom mounts because you have more than a single pivot point.

I'm on the fence right now as the is more of a convenience, but if I'm drilling holes in my truck and/or unable to simply remove my factory mat for thorough vacuuming then this becomes more of a hindrance. Plus, you'll definitely need to vacuum as the perforations in the pedal will grate off any crap on your shoes which means dirt, mud, grass, etc. is going to fall around and underneath the dead pedal. More crevices to hit with the shop vac.

Just comparing this in my mind to the more boxed in wedge shapes of dead pedals from other cars that already have dead pedals. Those seem to extend, directly from the left wall forward of the door, but most cars with dead pedals also have handbrakes instead of an e-brake pedal so no interference.

I know you're already through R&D, but I'm just thinking out loud. Probably things that have already been considered, but aren't possible or feasible for mass production?

Looking at this picture, where the bottom of the pedal is sitting, I would think that it would take a lot to move that. It isn't hanging in the air. Although I do see the point of not being able to mount through the floor without going through the floor mat.

If we can get enough people that want the matching pedals, they can be had. It will just take a good bit longer for R&D. If the interest in the matching brake and gas pedal covers is high enough they will develop those. We discussed it and the release of this single unit was for those that were anxiously waiting to simply have an easily installed dead pedal.

That it an interesting thought process there although I am not sure how deep into the design and fabrication process they are with the current version. I HAVE been told that the current version is very strong being made from A366 mild steel with the properties below. With that kind of strength, it would take some doing to move, bend or break it.

ASTM A366 (alloy 1008) steel
Ultimate Tensile Strength, psi 43,900 - 51,900
Yield Strength, psi 26,100 - 34,800

Will be in for one when kinks are worked out. Self tappers through mat are not ideal, but if there's no workaround it's not a deal breaker either

The only real "bugs" to be worked out would be associated with the mounting to the floor. There isn't really a viable option for that as I understand it, other than ******** to the floor. The piece that would allow the floor mat to be removed for cleaning would still need to be mounted to the floor for the best stability, but moving forward on that part, it will be hard to fabricate that piece in such a way that also allows the floor mat to rest flat against the floor. It is very very tricky indeed.

As for the matching pedal kit. Anyone and everyone that wants that should private message or email me now so that I can put a list together. The designing, testing and fabrication of those gas and brake pedal covers will prove to be harder than that of the dead pedal itself and we need to have a good idea of how many people would want that kit. The guys at Craven have been working on that and will continue to do so. But, knowing how many people would be in on an initial order/run of those would help to determine cost, etc. So please let me know as soon as possible so that we can attempt to determine the marketability. Otherwise, the cost of that matching set could be a good bit more expensive than the dead pedal alone.


One other thing to note. For the colors. Anyone placing an order, unless otherwise requested, will receive black powder coat. The clear option would be a zinc coated pedal, not powder coat and as such may not be as durable a finish as the black powder. So please, if you want the clear, let us know when you send your request for your order.

I think this may be getting a little out of hand. Chris I commend you on making a good looking product for only $89! I think everyone should get one and try it out to see what they think. For that price why not right. Who knows you may like it and be like "sweet I got an awesome functional mod!"

Thanks, that's cool.

Chris and I are not complaining though, it is our job to make what the customer wants. The thread is a little hard to follow but I don't mind the feedback and ideas. The fact remains some things just won't make sense for us to do.

A matching pedal set and the weathertech mat workaround are both solid ideas, but we have to a make a lot of each item so we want to have some sort of idea if we can sell them. We are not nearly a big enough company to have market research and stuff like that, so you guys are it. If enough of the pedals get ordered as is, then I can feel better throwing down more cash to design and manufacture the next piece.

^I agree. Many of the ideas on here are cool and I am definitely not denying that...
